ACF fields not displaying on Blog page with blog loop template

  • I have an ACF field group that accepts an H1, H2, and image (to use as a background image). If no image is submitted, then a default background color is set to show up. This field group is set to show up on all pages so that each page has its own input for the feature area with that content. This is working fine as I have a block element called Page Feature Area that outputs the design with the ACF values.

The problem I’m having is that I can’t get it to work on the Blog page. I have a page called News & Education, and it is set to be my posts page. I have created a Block – Loop Element that displays my blog posts, and I have set it to a display of Location: Blog. This works fine to display the blog posts on the News & Education page.

However, the Page Feature Area block isn’t working properly on the blog page. The Page Feature Area is there, as I can see the default color background, but it’s not pulling in the H1, H2, and image from the ACF fields on the page itself like all the other pages. So on the Blog (News & Education) page, I’m just getting the Page Feature Area block display with my default background color but no ACF field information for that page. I’m not sure why that page is not pulling in the ACF field information like all the other pages.

  • Hi there,

The blog page is not a static page, it’s an index page.

I don’t think there’s a way to add custom fields for blog, but I would recommend checking with ACF support.

If they confirm it’s not possible, a workaround is to duplicate the element and set static image/color/text, and set the location to blog.

  • I went with the duplicate element, and it works fine.

  • Glad to hear that 🙂
