I’m using the Performance Lab “Modern Image Formats” plugin. It works nicely with the default WP core image block, but doesn’t work with the GB Image Block, at least not on my site.
How can I get AVIF working for all images?
Plugin URL: https://wordpress.org/plugins/webp-uploads/
The AVIF image generation works, they are on the server, but are not output by the GB image block. If I load the same image on the page, once with GB image block, once with WP image, then the WP block will load AVIF but GB will not.

Hi there,
I do not see AVIF format image on the not working link, did you updated them to png?
Let me know 🙂

Hi Ying,
No changes, I’ve added a Dropbox link to show what I’m seeing. Tested in FireFox logged in, and in Chrome not logged in. Screenshot is from FF.
Thank you for looking into this! Edith

The dropbox link does not work, can you check?
You can upload the screenshot to your media library and share the link with me.

Hi Ying,
Sure, the revised link has been added. -

Hi there,
I can’t seem to replicate the issue. I installed the same plugin, uploaded a JPEG image into the media library, and then added both the core Image block and the GB Image block — both output the image in AVIF format.
Are there any other settings you’ve applied that might cause it to behave differently on your end?

Hi,
I’ve added login details to this support request and set up a new testing page which you are free to modify.
I’ve added the same image “Troubleshooting” to the page twice, but only the first one with the WP image block shows as AVIF.
Does this access allow you to help me debug this?
Many thanks! Edith

Your site has 2-factor Authentication enabled. Can you disable that for now so we can log in?

Apologies, please try again.

I think the issue is related to the option Output fallback images in the image format plugin:
https://app.screencast.com/8gxJ1gCV41Lh1Uncheck the option and upload the image again to the media library, then try the image block with the newly uploaded image.

That worked, but I was intending to use the fallback option to support older browsers that are not AVIF compatible. But thank you, so GB block will work if AVIF is the only image option, but not fallback, that’s good to know.

Yes, looks like it 🙂
