I’ve noticed that the background images I’m using on various containers on my homepage appear sharp on desktop, but become noticeably blurry or low-quality on mobile devices. The issue is especially visible on smaller screens.
I’m using background images set via Gutenberg editor in GP container blocks. Is there a recommended way to serve higher-quality background images for mobile, or control how background images scale and render on different devices?
Looking forward to your advice on how to fix this.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
The mobile is using the same size image as the desktop.
And the images look pretty much the same quality on my MacBook screen compared to those on my iPhone screen.

Thanks for checking.
I understand the same image is used on mobile and desktop, but could the issue be related to image compression during the upload process?
Locally, the background images are high quality, but once uploaded to WordPress, the quality seems significantly lower—especially noticeable on mobile screens.
Is it possible that WordPress or my theme compresses the images on upload or serves a lower resolution version? If so, is there a way to adjust this or serve higher quality background images specifically?

I don’t think WP media library does any compression for uploaded images. (GP does not do anything with the images) Do you have image optimization plugins that might’ve done that?
