Hi,
The screen elements layout in ‘WooCommerce / Products’ has changed and now I can only rearrange them if I chose a single column layout. If I choose two column layout (the layout I normally have – and I think it is the default) then some elements are partially laying on top of other elements and although I can drag elements to another column, they will not stay ‘dragged’ and spring back to their original position.I can drag elements up or down in the right hand column but some elements partially obscure other elements however I drag them.
The site is https://www.flyingtwigs.com

Hi there,
I’m not sure I understand your question, how did you add the products on the homepage?

Hi,
I added products on the homepage with shortcodes. For products in the various categories I go to WooCommerce / Products and that shows the layout where I add description, short description, image, type of product, quantity, price – etc. And that is where I am seeing the problem.ALSO, I have now found that the layout problem is also on ‘Appearance / Elements’ when I have it on two column layout.

Hi there,
I can’t see the issue from the frontend. Can you provide some screenshots that might explain the issue a bit?

Here is a screenshot on which I have put an arrow pointing to where the short description is partly hidden under other sections
Here it is a straight link back end flying twigs
Here is a second image with ah close-up of that part of the page closeup and I see that one of the sections is very wide and the others are narrow
And here is a shot I took with my phone while dragging an element from the right column to the left column and you can see that the dotted framing lines are superimposed on one another and no framing lines appear on the left column, so the dragged element will not position itself on the left

Hi there,
we have seen a similar issue with the GP Elements admin view, see here:
https://github.com/tomusborne/generatepress/issues/641
But we are not responsible for the other admin screens layout.
The GP Element issue only happened to a few users, and was looked to be related to some “bad data” stored in the users profile.
Can you try creating a new admin login, and login to the site in a private browser with that new admin. Then check if the issue persists.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue then it may be a different problem , and you should check first for plugin conflicts.

Thanks David, that worked in Firefox but even with the new user admin it is still messed up in Safari.
Also – I know it is a broad question but
– What is bad data associated with a user profile
– How would you go about locating and identifying it
– How does it get there in the first place? Thanks
-
Unfortunately I don’t have an answer to that.
But to cover, WordPress and a lot of plugins may store options data against a user profile. For things that define the users preferences. In addition to that; data is stored in the browsers localStorage and sessionStorage.
So the issue could be that the browser still holds that bad information.
You can try clearing the browsers Website data.
In Safari ( MacOS ) that should be under Safari > Settings > Privacy > Website Data. Where you can choose to remove a sites data. -

I cleared the data but it did not make any difference. However, I just logged in on Firefox with the original admin account and there is no problem with the layout. That also applies to Apearance / Elements / Edit
So… Safari is the problem child, and it is the browser I prefer to use.
Does that help you locate the problem in the interaction?

Not really.
As long as Safari is up to date ( and they haven’t introduced any new bugs ), then it should work the same as Firefox. See here:https://app.screencast.com/4QynhHMueCZQ0
Thats Safari on my a local dev install of Woo. And it works as expected.
Try logging out in Safari. Deleting the data storeage again and any cookies. And do a quick restart of the Mac. Then try logging back in.

Hello David,
I reported this to Woo and this is the replySven (Woo)
Nov 4, 2024, 13:03 UTCHi there David,
Thanks for the reply, and for the thorough troubleshooting that you have done!
This issue has been reported as Safari issue after the update to MacOS Sequoia/Safari 18.0.
Although this issue was introduced by Safari/Apple’s latest software upgrade and needs to be addressed by Apple team, our Woo dev team is also working to address this issue on our end. (Here is the pull request being worked on.)
It looks like this will be addressed when WooCommerce 9.4.0 is released:
https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/pull/51734In the meantime, it would be best to work on editing products from other browsers, such as Chrome or Firefox.
We are sorry for this inconvenience. Thank you again for your patience with us, and please let me know if working in another browser fixes this temporarily for you.
I will mark this as resolved.
