Can’t see the image description if I’m not logged in?

  • Yolanda Lippens

    Hello great Support,

I have an odd problem; when I go to an article on my website when I’m not logged in, I don’t see the image description.
An example of an article is
    https://www.yory.nl/achter-landlopers-aan-in-de-wortel-en-merksplas-kolonie/
And here are the screenshots (logged in / not logged in)

I’ve never seen this before and have no idea what is causing this.

Can you give me a hint?

    Regards, Yolanda Lippens, NL

  • Hi there,

It’s likely caused by the cache.

Can you disable your cache plugins and server cache to test?

  • Yolanda Lippens

    Hello Ying,

I’ve done some testing with the cache, but it doesn’t have any influence.
On several browsers the situation is the same: when I’m logged in the image description shows, but when I’m logged out (and delete all cache) the description doesn’t show.
I’m very frustrated about it because I use a lot of images which needs to show the source.

Do you see a description when you click on my article link?

    Thank you,
    Yolanda

  • Do you see a description when you click on my article link?

Not sure what you mean, sorry.

The caption is not in the HTML, so it’s not a CSS problem. Is the caption manually entered in the block editor or pulled dynamically from the media library?

    If you go to
    https://www.yory.nl/achter-landlopers-aan-in-de-wortel-en-merksplas-kolonie/

do you see the image description shown as here?

    Thank you,
    Yolanda

  • No, I don’t without logging in.

  • Yolanda Lippens

Thanks for the confirmation Ying, but that is exactly the problem.
I’ve created a Content Template for all posts without any restrictions.
In this example the featured image has a description, which is important that it is shown.
Can you please give any suggestions why this description is not shown?

    Thank you,
    Yolanda

I don’t know. Can you disable all plugins to test? So we can eliminate plugin conflict first.

If that’s not the problem, can you provide your admin login for me to check the backend? And keep all plugins disabled.

If it is a live site, can you create a staging site for us to perform testing?

  • Yolanda Lippens

    Hello Support,

I’ve done some more testing, but still can’t figure out why recently the image description is not shown when you’re not logged in, so it’s only shown when you logged in.

I’ve created a staging site, see details below.

The image description was always visible, I didn’t change anything to disable it.

I hope you can find the issue, as it’s important to show this information.

    Thank you,
    Yolanda, NL

  • I tried replacing the v1 image block with the v2 image block, and it seems to be working fine now.

Please check and let me know!
