Hi there!
I’ve been trying to change the URL of one of my webpages to “…/anfrage/”, but once I hit save, it overwrites it to “…/anfrage-2”. I have no other webpage with that exact URL, so the behavior makes no sense to me.
What am I missing here?
This seems to be the same issue as this one, for further reference.

Hi there,
WordPress will do this automatically if another page or post (or any post type) already has the permalink.
This can include posts that are drafted or even in the trash.
So, I would:
1. Check the trash for any conflicting permalinks
2. Check any other post type you may have on the site
3. Check draftsHope this helps!

Hi Tom,
thank you for the swift reply.
Checking for duplicates of the permalink was the first thing I did and there are none.
There might have been (I don’t remember), but definitely none are active or drafted and I deleted everything from the trash.
Any other clue here?

Hi there,
If you go to the
…/anfrage/
URL, does it redirect you somewhere, or does it show a 404 error page? -
LukeME
Hey Alvind,
…/anfrage/ redirects to the homepage. -
Alvind
Could you check the actual page title of the homepage? It might be using the same slug.
-
Nope, they all have unique page titles.
-
Can you provide an admin login?
-
Hey Ying, I added the login to the private information. Grateful for your help!
-
The homepage indeed uses the
/anfrage
slug, as you can see here: https://cln.sh/3x6KHStTJust change that slug to something else, and you’ll be able to use the
/anfrage
slug for the page where you want to use it. -
You’re awesome, thank you for the quick fix, Alvind! 🙏
Really easy to miss, since it’s only visible in “Quick Edit”, not in the right pane when editing.
-
You’re welcome! I agree, the WordPress UI can make it a bit tricky to spot the slug at times.
