Carousel Not Autoplaying on Mobile

  • It seems my iPhone is not autoplaying the carousel block. Works fine on desktop and Chrome inspect Mobile. Just not my iPhone. Provided login link below. Any ideas?

  • ok, I found the issue. It’s the Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion toggle in iOS. By default, I think this is set to ON. Good accessibility means I also adhere to this setting when I implement fades and slides. If it’s on, iPhone users see no subtle animation, I am ok with that. But for a carousel, I wonder how we should move forward.

If this is indeed the cause, I do think we need to have a conversation about how to best make all of this work. I want to adhere to the client’s preferences but use case here is for the carousel to scroll through partner logos. There must be a way to make this work and adhere to accessibility best practices for mobile?

  • Hi Ian,

Are you referring to the logo slider at the bottom of the homepage?

If so, it works on my iPhone. I would suggest checking it on other devices to confirm.

By default, I think this is set to ON

i do not think so. It’s default to off.

  • Hi Ying, yes. See my reply above. What do you think?

  • I do not think there’s anything we can do, unfortunately!

  • Thx Ying. Glad I was able to find the cause. On one hand, I am very happy GP code is as deliberate as my own to abide by accessibility rules. But it does make me wonder how I can get a scroll of partner logos on mobile. I guess this is the same conversation with the client explaining our code is abiding by user preferences on their phones.

If you or anyone on your team have any suggestions, I am all ears. Thx Ying!

  • You are welcome   🙂

    Exactly!

  • Hi Ian
I had a similar problem with infinite loop not working on windows PC, where the ‘reduce motion’ setting was turned on.
Alvin had a good explanation of what was happening and suggests that they are hoping to find a solution

  • Hi webfresh,

Thanks for the link and info! Totally makes sense.

So you and I have confirmed this issue. Let’s see if there is a real world solution.

    Cheers!

Add:on: bumped the other thread and linked added to this one just in case it helps for troubleshooting
