Container paddings from starter sites vs paddings from pattern-library

  • Hi team,

I have noticed that there is a conflict between the container paddings from the starter site templates and the container paddings from the pattern-library.

The starter site templates place the padding on the inner container.
The patterns from the library sets the padding to the outer container.

If you insert such a pattern into an imported startersite, you will unfortunately always have a conflict because the spacing on the left and right no longer fits.

    Is this problem known?

  • Hi there,

I’m not aware of this issue.
Can you specify the pattern and the site template so I can have a closer look?

  • Hi Ying,

unfortunately I cannot send you a link because it is a local installation.

But the problem is very easy to reproduce.

I tested with the two templates “Wander” and “Coach”. With both templates all container paddings were set to the inner container. But with the patterns from the library the paddings are always set to the outer container (global class: .gbp-section).

This means that there is always an offset.

The container from the pattern-library are wider.
The containers from the starter-site template are narrower (because the paddings are still deducted on the right and left).

    Here are two screenshots:

  • The templates you imported are NOT GP ONE sites, they don’t have global styles, so there isn’t a conflict.

Only GP ONE sites use global styles, and they should match the patterns in the pattern library.

  • Ok, maybe I have misunderstood something?
Does that mean that I have to do without the pattern library for all other templates (that are not GP-One)?

  • You can use the patterns from the pattern library, and you just need to modify the global styles gbp-sectionand gbp-section__inner.

  • Ok, thanks for the info, then I know.

I didn’t realize that there had been a change in the meantime (from inner container paddings to outer container paddings). But apparently that was the case.

    Thanks for the hint!

  • No Problem 🙂
