Creating Patterns

  • Hello,
I am trying to create patterns so I can easily put together blog posts so they all look the same.
I can make the pattern and bring it into a new post, but I can’t edit the post.

It seems like all the patterns of one kind are connected so I can’t edit for each post.
How do I get the pattern blocks ( I am using them as a template idea for design set up in a post for specific type of info. Article, video, infogram etc.) so they are editable in each post?

Also how do I delete all the crazy patterns I made trying to figure this out?

    Thank you
    Janet

  • Hi there,

It sounds like you’ve created synced patterns:
    https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/reusable-blocks/

Synced patterns are connected, so once you edit the original pattern, all of them will be changed.

However, you can detach the synced pattern.

Or just create a regular pattern, instead of synced pattern.

  • I see how I can detach them.
Yes I want to create regular patterns.
When I click on create pattern it automatically creates a synched pattern.

How would I make a regular pattern?
I don’t see it in the reusable block area?

    Thank s

  • When you first create a pattern under Appearance > Patterns, uncheck the ‘Synced’ checkbox option in the popup to make a regular pattern. See here: https://cln.sh/d7LLHBqY
