With the release of GeneratePress One and the sale ending fairly soon, I’m trying to get a grasp of what GenerateCloud would provide (since we already have Lifetime GeneratePress Premium and a recently renewed GenerateBlocks subscription). So hopefully this is an appropriate place to ask some questions about it.
- Will the GB Pattern Inserter soon be able to insert synced patterns? (Right now it can technically insert them, but they become unsynced.) This post seems to indicate it’s a bug, and I’m hoping it will be worked on soon: https://generate.support/topic/edit-synced-pattern-does-not-apply-to-previous-pattern/#post-112761
- Will GenerateCloud work with all WordPress native patterns? I know you recently moved your custom pattern library feature to using the built-in WordPress patterns. Does this mean GenerateCloud will be able to work with unsynced, synced, and (in the future) partially-synced patterns, or is it really only going to be a way to share unsynced patterns via the GB Pattern Inserter?
- If the previous answer indicates it will work with synced and partially-synced patterns, does that mean we would be able to define a synced pattern on one site (in the GenerateCloud) and any updates to that synced pattern would be automatically copied to every site that references it?
Thanks.

Hi there,
1. This is a tricky one that will take more looking into. Patterns are a collection of individual blocks that make up a section of content, whereas synced patterns are technically a single block that references the post ID of the actual pattern. So a “synced pattern” would technically need to be a pattern by itself, referencing another pattern, if that makes sense. We’ll dig deeper into this to see how it would be possible.
2. Our Pattern Library works with any patterns as long as you add them to a “Collection”. It’s not specific to our blocks. The synced pattern thing is a different story, as mentioned above.
3. No, this wouldn’t be possible. As mentioned above, synced patterns are actually a single block that references a “post” (pattern) on your website by its ID. It then uses a function to get the content of that post, and render it. So, the post it’s rendering needs to exist on the same website for it to work.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer the questions in detail.
I won’t hold my breath on #3 then. It’s unfortunate it won’t be able to work in that way, but I understand the issue with it. A post ID is not a reliable way to identify shared content across sites.

I can also imagine that a lot of people wouldn’t like the idea of someone being able to remotely change the content on their website. Seems like trouble waiting to happen.
Glad I could help with the other questions 🙂
