Front page category feature image on mobile

  • Hi there, I’ve searched the forums quite a bit on this and couldn’t find anything specific to my needs. I’ve created a ‘latest posts’ block and put that within a container to feature one post from one category on my front page. It looks okay apart from mobile, where it’s too wide and stretched across the screen. Not sure what’s causing this. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

  • Hi Andy,

You have a 40px left and right padding on mobile. You’ll have to remove that first.

I would also suggest using a GB Query Loop Block instead. Reference: https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/query-loop-overview/

  • Thanks Fernando. I’ve reduced the padding to 20px and I’ll use a query loop block for that, as you said. I’ll report back here when I’m done.

    Cheers.

  • You’re welcome, Andy!

  • Oh, sorry, one more thing…it appears I may have tweaked something so that my front page is slightly out of whack. I’m getting slight movement on my front page (and a bar appears along the bottom) on desktop. Just the front page.

Any idea what might be causing this?

    Thanks Fernando.

  • Create your page hero with a Block Element – Page Hero instead. Reference: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-page-hero/

    Don’t set anything to alignfull.

  • Thanks Fernando. I better get back to work, but I’ll do this later and report back. Must get more comfortable working in the elements section!

  • You’re welcome, Andy! The issue is coming from the alignfull setting of your WordPress Block. I would suggest to set the page to full width if you want full width sections instead. Then, contain the sections that need to be contained through a GB Container Block.

  • Hi Fernando, the hero image how looks good, as I’ve made it with a block element, although I’ve lost the responsiveness on mobile. I’ve put a class ‘mobile-height’ in advanced css (in the block element now, before it was in my page in wordpress), as I’ve got some css to in my site to fix that, but it’s not working.

Not sure what’s happening here so would love any help if you can spare it.

  • Ah, I see, the padding. No worries, I’ve got it πŸ™‚

  • Glad you resolved it! For GB Blocks, there are responsive view icons on top of the Block Settings. This option will allow you to change settings like padding specifically for Desktop, tablet, or mobile. πŸ™‚

  • Yes, I found that, thanks Fernando. Very cool and it’s a nice feature working like this!

  • You’re welcome, AndyT!

  • Hi Fernando, all going great so far, this is just related to my first query on this thread (featuring a post from one category using query loop). All went well, except I can’t seem to position it above ‘latest posts’. I can only position it at the bottom. Are there more options in terms of positioning the GB Query loop block?

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

where can i see the issue ?

  • Hi David,

It’s just the position of the GB query loop block. It’s currently sitting at the bottom of the front page (Brisbane in June) and the only other option within content placement is to put it at the top, above the welcome message. I’d actually like it in the middle, above related posts and beneath the welcome message, but it seems there’s no option? I guess I would have to turn the related posts block into a GB query loop as well in order to achieve this?

    Thanks!
