GB V1 Override not working

  • Hi Team,

    I just installed your ‘Electrician’ Starter site from the Site Library and as I normally do, I added the following PHP to the functions.php file; add_filter('generateblocks_use_v1_blocks', '__return_true');

As expected, the button appears in GB Settings and it is set to ‘Use version 1 blocks’. However, when I go into a page editor and a block, I am presented with GB v2. Why is this happening now?

  • Hi there,

The Electrician site is built using V2 blocks.

The filter does not automatically convert existing blocks to V1. Instead, it only ensures that any newly inserted blocks will use the V1 structure going forward.

  • Oh, so any new sites in the Site Library are V2 only? That’s rough!

  • So looks like I’ll be on this forum a bit then.

First problem. I want to change the hover colour of the button in the Hook – Desktop Menu Button.
I have changed the hover colour in the customiser and that doesn’t do it.
Where do I find this in V2 editor. Once again, something that should take 2 seconds, is hidden away in V2 and made over complicated. Grrrrr!

  • Yes, the new sites are utilizing new features introduced in V2, which are not possible to achieve using V1 block settings alone.

  • I want to change the hover colour of the button in the Hook – Desktop Menu Button.

That button style is applied using a global style: .gbp-button--primary

I’ve recorded a short screen recording showing how to change the hover color: https://cln.sh/hqxVgDcz

  • Thank Alvind I fixed that.
I now have an even bigger issue, where I can’t past text into the service page lists. When I try to paste a sentence into a list, it pulls the list item up a line, next to the list item above. So clunky!

  • This issue with pasting plain text into a list item is a definite bug as it happens randomly and sometime if I save it, it fixes the issue, other times it does not. But I have more issues with V2. Why can’t I change the hover colour of the links in the Footer section? Also, where has the icon gone before Headlines? Why can’t I add a simple SVG Icon anymore or where has this simple task been hidden now?

So sorry, but this V2 is unusable!

  • So where am I going wrong.
I have a simple phone link and want it to turn grey when hovered over.

I eventually figured out that to change the colour of the link text, I needed to select the tiny ‘Links’ button in the block editor, but how do I make it go grey when hovered over? These colours used to be together under ‘Colors’ on V1 which makes all the sense in the world, but now the link hover colour is hidden away?

I’m still trying to figure out how to add an icon too, what’s happened to that?

  • This issue with pasting plain text into a list item is a definite bug as it happens randomly

Are you referring to this section? https://cln.sh/6NsMJ3sr
If so, I tried to replicate the issue you mentioned, but I wasn’t able to reproduce it. If you don’t mind, it would be helpful if you could record a screen capture showing the issue as it happens.

Why can’t I change the hover colour of the links in the Footer section?

    Please see this reference: https://cln.sh/NBdZy0Mb

Also, where has the icon gone before Headlines?

It’s located under the Settings panel: https://cln.sh/cpbNXv6X

We’ve covered almost everything regarding the V2 blocks in this documentation, hopefully it will help: https://learn.generatepress.com/

  • So here is a link to the page where for some unknown reason the lists are not listing. I managed to fix all of the but one, which just won’t have it. I had to copy paste the content from the bottom up in most cases as it bugged out if I copy pasted the list items from the top. Some still show wrong in the backend, but sem to present OK in the front.

  • Select the column that wraps all the text, and try setting its Display to Flex under the Layout panel.

  • Thanks for you help with this Alvind and I have addressed most of the issues now. I know from previous posts the GB team were after feed back on V2, so I have a few observations which will hopefully help make V2 a little more usable. I will post to a new thread.

    Thanks again.

  • You’re welcome, and thanks for the feedback! I’ve already forwarded your comments to David. 🙂
