Hi,
I’m aware that renaming a global style is already possible.
However, the warning says: “Elements and blocks using this class name may lose visual styles after this change.”
Does this mean that in version 2.5, after renaming a global style, I still need to manually re-apply the updated style to all elements that are using it?

Yes, that’s correct. Unfortunately there are no changes regarding that.

Would it be possible to rename via database/SQL “search replace” kind of query?

Unfortunately, I’m not sure, but you can give it a try on a staging site.
