Generateblocks and Mailpoet pop up conflict

  • We’ve been back and forth with Mailpoet plugin on why the newsletter popup won’t load on the home page. There is nothing on that page but Generateblocks.

Finally, I copied the page and narrowed it down: if you remove the Generateblocks Query Loop then their popup works.

I don’t know if you can figure out on your end why that might be? I have gone ahead and mentioned it in their support forum.

Here is the thread if it helps: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/popup-not-loading-2/#post-18773140

  • Hi there,

Where can I see the working newsletter popup? I do not see it on other pages.

    Let me know 🙂

  • Here we have a test page.
The test page has just simple stuff on it. The popup works on any page without the query block.

  • On the test page, the pop-up adds HTML to the entry content, but I do not see this HTML on any other pages.

I do not think the query block will affect the other block that generates HTML.

Please let us know what the form plugin’s feedback is, as we have no idea what the condition is for the plugin to generate HTML properly.

  • I am not sure what you mean? All I know is I did test on all other pages, and it worked on all others. Mailpoet has not responded, and we are stuck on this.

I will put our separate demo site in the private area. I tested over there, and got the same results. It seems specifically to a certain query loop set up. When you have the columns and pictures. The Demo site has the Popup set to all pages, so if you go the the query page first and then the other pages, the other pages popup.

  • Can you provide an admin login to the demo site so we can do some tests?

  • Ok, its added.

  • The credential doesn’t work. Can you check?

  • I just used it to login. But I’ll try changing the password.

  • I can not tell why it’s conflicting. And it does not seem to be showing every time; the behaviour is quite random. I created a test page with only 1 paragraph, and the popup shows up sometimes, but doesn’t sometimes as well.

It has to be inspected by the plugin’s support, unfortunately!

  • It only shows once because of the cookie. Even though I set it to show every time. I have to keep clearing cookies. I DO wish their support was quicker at answering!

  • Let us know if you hear from their support. Thanks!

Meanwhile, you can also try using v2 query block, to see if that makes a difference.

  • Ok tried that. No difference.

  • Hi there,

This is really an issue on MailPoet’s side. It doesn’t affect only the GB Query block—I tested it with the core Query Loop block and got the same result.

It looks like MailPoet is preventing the popup from rendering whenever it detects a WP_Query on the page. Hopefully they can come up with a fix on their end.

  • They literally just told me to ask you! Here is their response: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/popup-not-loading-2/#post-18777669
“I don’t think this is something MailPoet can fix in the plugin itself, but rather a conflict with how your homepage is structured……If it is indeed GenerateBlocks causing it, reaching out on their support forum is the best idea, as they may have insight on why their Query Loop block affects popup scripts.”

No ideas at all? Without knowing what it might be, I don’t even know if a different popup form will work.

  • Please, try the following. Remove the post excerpt from the query loop temporarily. Does the popup come back?
