GenerateBlocks: Can’t replace image, only browse media library

  • When I add an image using GenerateBlocks, in the settings in the right sidebar, after clicking “Browse,” I can select the image I want to insert. The problem is that when I click “Browse” again, it doesn’t show me the specific image I have selected, but instead, it displays the entire media library. Could you set it up so that it shows exactly the image I currently have selected? The standard Gutenberg image block can do this—after adding an image, I see the option “Replace” and it shows me exactly the selected image. With GenerateBlocks, I then have to search for the original image again in the entire media library. Please adjust it so that in GenerateBlocks’ image block there’s also a “Replace” image option, not just “Browse” all the time.

Selected image - Gutenberg (replace image)

  • Hi there,

The standard Gutenberg image block can do this—after adding an image, I see the option “Replace” and it shows me exactly the selected image.

I don’t see this, On my install, the core image block and the GB image block behave the same.

I don’t think GB uses specific settings for this, it’s just using WP’s functions.

  • Here I am showing the problem with the img in the video. https://www.loom.com/share/f535a363d4534811b6d065a5abb39469

  • Hmm, this is weird. I’ll check with the dev team.

  • But try to suggest some improvements as well, not just using replace… the image URL is much easier to insert using the standard WordPress image/gallery block than through GB.

Sometimes I add a lightbox to images, and the fact that I have to manually copy the image URL unnecessarily extends the web design process — and these little things keep adding up. I want them to decrease, to simplify the design process, and WordPress handles this better through the Gutenberg image block.

    Image link (options)

  • I’ll submit an issue at GP.

At the same time, if you have other ideas, feel free to open feature requests at https://github.com/tomusborne/generateblocks. The dev team will review the requests regularly 🙂
