Global Style Performance Question

  • Hi,

from a CSS-performance point of view I am not sure if I have fully understood global styles. Here’s an example:

So far I used the Body-Element in Customizer > Typography > Typography Manager -> Base to define which style my paragraphs (<p>) should have. As you know if I change the settings here all text style will change wherever I used the p-tag on my site.

Now, I can define exactly the same style in GB > global styles using the heading-p-tag and apply it on the same text as explained above.

So, from a performance point of view (and speeding up my site when it is rendering) should I use global styles in GB? Or should I keep it the way I did using the customizer?
I followed your explanations and watched the video here https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/global-styles/ But still uncertain if the performance issue is really that big.

    Thanks for clarifying this issue.

    Cheers Oliver

  • Hi there,

The performance difference is negligible. But the workflow is drastically different.
    Simple rules i apply:

Wherever possible use the Customizer to add styles that you want to apply across your site.
    E.g the body <p> or a heading <h1>, <h2> etc.

Use GB Block Settings, when you need to break from theme styles.
E.g a landing page heading or Call To Action.
And make that a Global Style when you will be using that style in many places.

  • ok, thanks I understand. Have a nice weekend…
