Hello,
After switching my WordPress site’s theme to GeneratePress, I encountered a serious indexing issue.
Before the theme change, my website had multiple pages indexed on Google. However, shortly after activating GeneratePress, all indexed pages were removed from Google’s index. Currently, none of my pages appear in Google search results.
Here is what I have already checked and done:
Google Search Console is properly set up and verified
XML sitemap is submitted and successfully read by Google
No noindex tags are intentionally added
Robots.txt does not block crawling
Pages return 200 OK status codes
Manual URL inspection requests were made, but pages are still not indexed
There were no URL or permalink changes during the theme switch
The only major change on the website before deindexing was switching the theme to GeneratePress.
I’m concerned there might be:
A theme-related noindex output
A hidden meta tag or header added by the theme or Customizer
A GeneratePress setting affecting indexing or visibility
I have used the GeneratePress theme on many of my websites before, but this is the first time I have encountered such an issue.
I have added administrator login credentials in the private/support area, so you can directly inspect the issue if needed.
Could you please help me identify what might be causing Google to drop all indexed pages after activating GeneratePress?
Thank you in advance for your support.
Best regards,

Hi there,
The theme does not have any noindex output. I checked the homepage head area, and it is set to index correctly by RankMath.
It should not be a theme issue; As if it’s a theme issue, we would receive lots of similar tickets. https://generatepress.com/ is also built with the GP theme, and it has been indexed and ranked well.
I can not tell why Google is not indexing your site since the index tag is correctly added, I am sorry but I am not an SEO expert, unfortunately!
I would recommend checking with your SEO plugin’s support.
Let us know their response, if there’s anything we can improve in the theme, we would be more than happy to help!
