Google tag noindex “exploding”

  • Hi helpers,

for some time now I see on Google Search Console a fairly rapid rise of non indexed pages.
Today I see some staggering 2322 pages.
They all have more or less the same format:

    https://dharmoebe.nl/category/wiswerk/page/4/?query-76fb4a62-page=3&query-b63e283a-page=3&query-1dc117a7-page=2

This means: the problem is limited to the category ‘wiswerk’.
But somehow a query runs wild, I guess.

    Any help or tips?
    Thanks and greetings!

  • Hi there,

how was the Paging Navigation added to the site ?

  • As far as I can see: the category Wiswerk contains 14 sub-categories.
In some of them (starting pages of sub-sections) Paging Navigation has been used, e.g.
    https://dharmoebe.nl/praktijk/leraren-overzicht/

There are two elements on such a starting page that could be relevant:

    1. a roll-out menu, based on a snippet I received from you – long time ago 😉
    2. paging navigation via an element, using a Block – Hook, generate_after_entry_header.

    Hope this can help.
    Thanks!

  • So that URL ie.

https://dharmoebe.nl/category/wiswerk/page/4/?query-76fb4a62-page=3&query-b63e283a-page=3&query-1dc117a7-page=2 is coming off the paging navigation at the end of the category archive.

But those links should not contain those ?query strings
That “should” only occur on a static page that has multiple paginated query loop blocks on it.

I would suggest removing that element for now, and let the themes paging navigation display.
We can always style it with some CSS.

Unless theres a specific reason for adding that element ?

  • Yes, I get what you say.

I removed the pagination element from the query loop on category archive pages.
These categories though contain pages for which I made a seperate pagination element too.
I guess this individual pagination element does not have to be removed – for the time being?

We can now wait and see if Google reacts favourably to these changes, I suppose?

  • Yes, I think you can leave the individual paginations.
And then see what Google makes of the chenges.
