How can I show the full excerpt automatically in each post below the title?

  • Yolanda Lippens

    Hello great support,

How can I show the full excerpt automatically in each post below the title?
I’ve tried a block element, but it looks like I can’t set anything.

    As example

    Thank you!
    Yolanda

  • Hi there,

you can use a Block Element, and a GB Headline Block, in the block setting Dynamic Data you can set the Content Source to Post excerpt.

  • Yolanda Lippens

    Hello David,

Thanks for you (always) quick respons.
I’m afraid I’ve lost you at ht he ‘GB Headline Block’. Where can I find this?

    Thank you,
    Yolanda

  • You need the GenerateBlocks Plugin installed on your site.
Then you should have the Headline block.

  • Yolanda Lippens

    Hello David,
I have the GB Plugin, but didn’t realize I had to use the Headline Block.
So, I’ve done what you said, but it’s still not working, I’m sure I’m doing it wrong.

    – The post has the excerpt filled in (side bar), the text is
Testing Testing – svp laten staan – Indometacine is een medicijn dat behoort tot de groep niet-steroïdale ontstekingsremmende geneesmiddelen (NSAID’s). Het heeft een remmend effect op ontstekingsprocessen in het lichaam.

    – The Element GB Headline has the dynamic setting for Excerpt, and is visible for all posts.
    – I have set the background color to light blue.

    But yet it doesn’t show.
    I’m testing with 1 article:
    https://pijnmc.nl/medicatie/indometacine/

Can you see what I’m doing wrong?
Or maybe you need a temp login?

    Thank you,
    Yolanda

  • Question – will the excerpt be inside the blue background ?
As your other topic is handling that and we could look at combining the two.

  • Yolanda Lippens

Yes, this is the example from the designer, so the light blue box should show the excerpt:
    https://i.postimg.cc/3xNt2s2B/20230604-000982.jpg

Note: it should show the text typed into the excerpt box into the right sidebar, so not give the first lines of the article itself.

On the Show Posts page it looks okay, as I can set this block in the CSS.

  • OK, in that case, in your other topic with the Page Hero.
Duplicate the Containers you added for the title.
    Change the background color.
And change the Headline Block to display the Excerpt instead.
Now it only needs one GP Element 🙂

  • Yolanda Lippens

Yes, that worked, but how can I get the top of this light blue box attached to the bottom of the dark blue box, and full width? It seems that the full width setting of the Element block doesn’t work.
I’ve found this code, but what do I add to get it full width?

    .gb-container.gb-container-1894b2ee.alignfull {

    }

  • Yolanda Lippens

I already solved it, thank you!!

  • Glad to hear that

  • Yolanda Lippens

Hi David, I have to reopen this ticket, unfortunately my trick didn’t work, so I would like to get more help.

The problem is, I can’t set this block to full width. I’ve added some CSS, but it still doesn’t show as the dark blue Title bar.
So, First, I would to show the Title bar in dark blue, full width – that worked and is OK.
And Second, I would like to show the Excerpts block in light blue, full width, with the top sticky to the bottom of the darkblue, as I showed in the screenshot earlier.

    What is your advise?

    The example page is
    https://pijnmc.nl/medicatie/indometacine/

  • If you edit your Page Hero Element, and below the Container Block with the blue background:

    1. add a new Container Block.
1.1 Set its background to the light blue.
1.2 in the block tool bar select the Insert Inner Container.

    2. select the Inner Container and
2.1 add some Spacing > Padding.
2.2 set the Sizing > Max Width if needed.

    3. Inside the inner Container add your headline to show the excerpt.

  • Yolanda Lippens

I did exactly what you suggested, but the setting for Max Width is not shown….
I just don’t understand why this isn’t working for this block.

I’ve made a video to show you the back-end

  • Can you edit the Page Hero Element ?
And when you’re in there, select the top level Container Block with the blue background. From its menu select Duplicate.
You should now have 2 x titles.
Edit the duplicate and change the color and the dynamic content.

  • Yolanda Lippens

I’m sorry David, but I’m totally lost here.
I duplicated the block, and the settings shows its as Full width, but no change on the site (there is no cache issue).
Can you please take a look in the admin?//?? How can I send you the login?
