images missing in browser but not wp dashboard

  • I have been dealing with missing images on my portfolio website https://stacycampidesign.com/ for a few days now and need help with resolving this issue.

In the WordPress dashboard everything appears normal and I am using the generate blocks plugin. I first contacted my hosting service (transcription in private info section) and they had me disable all plugins and that brought all the images back but when I reactivated generate press and generateblocks all the appearance selections were gone except for the spots that I did custom css. Unfortunately the siteground fix is no longer working and the images sitewide are not appearing in any browsers.

I tried deleting and uploading new images and updating the page, but in the browser you can’t see the image.

I have screen shots to share, but the options listed in the instructions are not working. Please let me know if this error is something you can help with, thanks.

  • Hi there,

they had me disable all plugins and that brought all the images back but when I reactivated generate press and generateblocks all the appearance selections were gone except for the spots that I did custom css

Can you disable GP premium and GB for us to inspect?

    Let me know 🙂

  • yes I will diable both those plugins now.

I noticed that siteground moved my website to another server could that be a culprit?

  • I pasted the new ip that siteground sent in in the private info section in case that is relative to the issue.

  • It looks like with GB and GP Premium disabled, the images are still not showing.

Now can you disable all plugins again?

Noticed that the images are using DATA URLs, this is not a normal behaviour of WordPress (GP doesn’t interfere with image URLs ), are you using a plugin for that? If so, disable that specific plugin to test.

  • Before I started the help desk with my host I was using the shortpixel plugin, but that was disabled, deleted after setting images were restored to original. Do I need to go in to each image and adjust the url?

I will disable all plugins now

  • Do I need to go in to each image and adjust the url?

I’m not sure as I’m not familiar with the plugin, not sure how it generates the URL.

Now I can see the images, and the URLs become the regular image URLs.

Can you now activate the GenerateBlocks plugin?

    Let me know 🙂

  • I activated the generate blocks plugin

  • Hi there,

i had a quick look over your site and i didn’t notice any empty spaces where an image was missing, it all looks pretty good to me.

Did you resolve the issue ? If not can you direct me to a page and highlight what is missing ?

  • Hi Dan,
When I first looked this morning everything appeared normal, so I went ahead and activated each plugin and checked before activating the next. When they were all activated the site looked like it was good to go. However, when I closed everything and reopened the website in the a few browsers, all the images are missing again. I have a feeling it is the generate press theme plugin. What are your thoughts?

  • For some reason the images are appearing on my mobile phone, but not on my desktop browsers. I have tried chrome and firefox and have cleared the cache for both browsers, but still see the problem of no images appearing.

  • This issue has been resolved now, it was a plugin error that is now fixed. Thanks.

  • Glad to hear you found the issue.
Out of interest and in case others have a similar issue – what was the plugin error ?

  • Hi, the problem was fixed by my host’s help desk deleting a folder in the cache. When I checked each plugin, I found that the siteground optimizer plugin was the reason the images were disappearing in the browser. I contacted them with this problem and they corrected it.

Everything looks good now, but I had to go back and reset the global colors and for some reason the back to top button is no longer showing. Any ideas on why that went away?

  • There’s a possibility that SG in there attempt to fix the caching issue also removed options for the theme tables. So some settings were lost.

Check in the Customizer > Layout > Footer, is the Back to Top enabled ?

  • Got it, I figured I would have to go back and fix some stuff after all that activating and deactivating. I couldn’t remember where the back to top settings were, so thanks for that.
