IP block on some servers?

  • Hi Tom,

I’d like to give you an update on this issue; I’ve changed hosting company for one the domains affected by the issue, and now GeneratePress is working as expected – without the secondary API.

I’ve contacted again Namecheap support and they told me the following:

According to the support topic you provided, your plugin provider may block our server’s IPs.

So, the block should be checked from their side as only they have access to their server’s firewall.

Is it possible for you to check with Kinsta about those IPs?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Is there a specific IP, or all of them?

In my experience, Kinsta will take away the block, but the system that initially blocked them will likely kick in again and re-block them in short order.

The “permanent” fix is to use the secondary API, as we have greater control over that.

  • All of them unfortunately 🙁 if you could check with Kinsta it will be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

  • Hi there,

They’re not able to see any blocks on their end.

Any chance you can share temporary admin access to one of the affected sites so I can investigate further?

  • Hi Tom, I’ve shared the login details in the Private information tab.

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi there,

Sat on chat with them for an hour tonight while they investigate, but had to step away (it’s getting late). I’ve asked them to email me what they find. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Tom,

Ok, thank you for your help!

  • Hi there,

As I suspected, it seems they’ve blocked these IPs internally due to spam issues.

I’m afraid you’ll need to use the secondary API, as they’re unable to unblock these internally blocked IPs, as they apply to the entire hosting infrastructure.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • Hi Tom, thank you for your help.

It could be something else not related to the IP block?

I’ve noticed today that 2 websites that share the same IP address, behave differently (see screenshots in private information tab); one is working again and the other one it’s still having the same issue.

  • It’s definitely an IP block, as our host confirmed.

These block lists they maintain internally may have time limits on the blocks, which is why you’re seeing inconsistency.

This is why we implemented the secondary API, so that we could have better control over the API in these kinds of situations.

  • Ok, thank you for your help.
