Layout for blog page

  • Hi there,

I am about to layout the front page of a website which will also be the main blog page. The blog posts should be shown in a certain design. First, one big post, then two in a row. Then a banner which is not posts. Then three posts in a row and so on with different elements/rows.

What would be the GeneratePress way of doing this? I do not have Generateblocks Pro. Should I use WP Show Post? Or should I be able to do it in GeneratePress elements?

    / Peter

  • Hi Peter,

I believe the Query loop blocks from GenerateBlocks would be what you need:
    https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/query-loop-overview/

You can find some good examples using it in our site library templates:

Let me know if this helps 🙂

  • Hi Leo,

Thanks for your quick reply! I will look into the query loop. I can see, it’s possible to set a offset parameter, which think I will need. Would you use the query loop block directly on the front page in the Gutenberg Editor or would it be better to use Elements?

Is it possible to copy specific elements from the site library templates or do I have to import whole template/design?

Another thing: Modifying the single post layout. What should I look for here?

  • Let’s keep it one question at a time and per topic – it’s the best way for us to help.

Would you use the query loop block directly on the front page in the Gutenberg Editor or would it be better to use Elements?

In your case, I would say the it’s probably easier to create a static front page with query loops and offsets.

Is it possible to copy specific elements from the site library templates or do I have to import whole template/design?

Another thing: Modifying the single post layout. What should I look for here?

Please open two new topics for each of those questions so we can resolve one issue per topic and not get everything mixed up.

    Thanks!

  • Hi again,

Is it possible to make the offset thing automatic. So if I swap two blocks or rearrange in another way, the sequence will be updated as well?

Sure, I will go ahead a create seperate threads.

  • Is it possible to make the offset thing automatic.

    Unfortunately not.
