License Deactivate Loophole (Problem)

  • Just testing out activating and deactivating licenses to see how it works. Not sure if this has been known or not. If you are handing over a website to a client and forget to clear out the license, (I am using Generate One), they can reactivate it just by clicking save. So unless you are always checking the active websites on your generatepress account, past clients can use your license. Even if you click deactivate website, they can just click save in the license area and reactivate it.

  • Hi there,

When you click the Clear Key button, it should remove the license key that is saved on the site. Could you double-check if that’s the case?

  • Clearing it does work. But if you forget to clear it out and no longer have access to that site, they can just click save with the current license and get it activated again.

  • To prevent this issue, I suggest not activating the license on the site intended to be handed over to a client. You can continue developing the site as all plugin functionalities will still work even if the license is not activated. Simply download the latest version from your GP account to update the plugin during your development phase.

  • Agreed that would be best. Thanks!

  • No problem!
