Link options in GB image block causing zombie pages

  • ISSUE:

An image was discovered to have it’s own page. Not just as an image, but as a whole page with a comment section. This is a problem when the page is deleted and the image remains in the Media Library with it’s own permalink, ergo the name, “zombie page”.

    WP IMAGE BLOCK:

The block toolbar above the WP Image block contains the following link options:

    • URL
    • Link to image file
    • Link to attachment page

It is my understanding that selecting any option other than “Link to Attachment Page” when inserting an image on a page will prevent zombie image pages.

    GB IMAGE BLOCK

There is no option in the block tool bar, and the block properties on the right side panel have only one of the options that exist in the basic WP image block:

    • URL

If the image was inserted to the page using the GB image block, the image will still appear as a zombie page even after the containing page has been deleted. I’m putting the URL in the “Private Information” below so you can see the permalink structure (it is a former employee which is why I don’t want to post it publicly here).

    QUESTIONS:

Assuming this functionality isn’t being added by some other plug-in (like Yoast or Media Library Folders), is adding these same link properties to the GB image block under consideration for a future release?

Is there any other work around other than avoiding use of the GB image block?

  • Hi there,

An image was discovered to have it’s own page. Not just as an image, but as a whole page with a comment section.

In WordPress, images automatically get their own Attachment Pages, which is a WP default behaviour; it’s not something defined by GB or GP.

You can disable it via Yoast SEO: Yoast SEO → Settings → Media → “Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?” → Yes

If it does not work, please check with Yoast SEO’s support.
