Main menu location

    Hi Guys,

Wondering if you can advise on menu set up and location. I have included private information below.

If you go to the site home page you’ll see I have the menu across the image overlay and below the top bar.

But when I go to ABOUT US for example I have the menu on the page but not at the top. Can I activate a sticky menu with background colour as you cannot see the menu and the star logo covers some content.

    Cheers

    Richard

  • Hi Richard,

I believe what you are looking to do is to disable the transparent header/navigation Header Element on the About page only:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/transparent-header-and-navigation/

You can do so by adding the page to the Exclusion rules:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-element-overview/#display-rules

Let me know if this helps 🙂

    Hi Leo,

Ok I am having problems still. If you look at the about page now you will see that it now shows the logo at the top which is ok but the menu items are now white on white so it only shows when I hover.

Do I need to edit that container with the content and give it a minus top margin so that it brings the grey background to the top of the page.

    Could you advise please?

    Cheers

  • but the menu items are now white on white so it only shows when I hover.

Why not set a different color for the menu items at customizer > colors > primary navigation?

For the homepage, you can set white color menu item in the header element.

    Hi Ying,

That is not working as I’d need to change colours at the top of the home page. I am really struggling with the main nav set up.

What I am trying to achieve is the hover menu as it is on the home page but when I go to the subpages that menu is on a white background and I cannot work out why that is there.

All I want is a hover menu on each page and the ability adjust the container overlay colour>

This menu element is really confusing. Any other suggestions?

    Cheers

  • Hi there,

    1. Go to Appearance > Elements and Edit the Empty Merged Headers
1.1 Check the Navigation Colors option.
1.2 Set the nav colors you require for the merged header ie. white

    2. Go to Customizer > Colors
Now set the primary menu colors that you want for the other pages.
Note that these colors will also apply to the Sticky Navigation as well.

    Hi David,

Thanks for that. Some progress made but I still have a problem with the block at the top of the subpages. It is white. Not sure if that is some type of element

Also the sticky menu looks really crappy as it is being scrolled through by the content. Is it possible for that to have a background colour? maybe the gold>

    Cheers

  • The top of the page thats the Site Header.
You can set its Color in Customizer > Colors -> Header.

For the Sticky Navigation – if you set the Customizer > Colors -> Primary Navigation background color to match that of the site header then it will apply that to the sticky nav.

If that sticky nav option is not good for you then let me know.

    Hi David,

    We are getting there.

On the home page the menu is overlaid on the opaque image and this is how I would like it on the other pages. At the moment its is a solid block using 5D1D05.

How can I get the same effect as the home page.

I have added the sticky menu background and that is fine now but the star logo is not showing?

    Cheers

  • MoleculeMarketer

Or we could change the padding on the main nav?

  • On the home page the menu is overlaid on the opaque image and this is how I would like it on the other pages

Your header element only applies to the homepage, if you want the same header layout for all other pages, you can set the location to entire site in the header element.

    Hi Guys,

Any update on my last two posts above?

    Cheers

  • What image do you want to display behind the navigation on the inner pages ?
    Is it:

    a) the same image on all pages
    b) the featured image for the specific page

    Let me know.

  • MoleculeMarketer

    Hi David,

I think we are very close. I don’t need any image behind the header block.

If you look at the ABOUT page we have the logo and menu in that wide wine color band under the top bar. I would like to make that band narrower and align the menu items closer to the logo.

With the sticky nav menu that looks fine when scrolling but I would like to show the logo there as well and maybe align that menu centre.

The only image I need to change is on the News & Racing Reports page. (I think that might be one of the elements)

Thanks for all your help, it is really appreciated.

    Cheers

  • OK, lets do this:

    1. make the site header narrower on inner pages add this CSS:

    body > .site-header .inside-header {
        padding-block: 5px;
    }

    2. Go to Customizer > Layout > Sticky Navigation and add a logo there.

    3. Change the image on News & Racing Reports, thats correct, in Appearance > Elements edit the element titled: Blog Page Header
TIP: When you view a page, check the Admin Bar > Elements menu for a list of links to all the elements loading on that page.

Make those changes and then i can look at the centring the menu items.

  • MoleculeMarketer

    Hi David,

    Made those changes.

I think the menu looks ok on standard and sticky navs.

Would maybe like to test either aligning the menu items next to the logo on both or having the logo and menu centred.

    Cheers

    Richard
