New law on accessibility in Europe as of 28 June 2025

  • The Barrier-Free Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG) stipulates that certain products and services must be manufactured and sold or offered and provided in an accessible manner in future. This means that company websites and online shops are also affected by this new law. https://bfsg-gesetz.de

Do the developers of GP and GB have these requirements in Europe in mind?

The topic is not fundamentally new, but certain specifications will then become mandatory and it would be good if the WordPress technology is also ready by this time.

    Best regards

  • Hi there,

To our knowledge the BFSG has a minimum rating requirement af A to AA for WCAG 2.2 compliance, with some additional requirements. Some of which is applicable to the Theme and our plugins.

We are constantly reviewing and improving our a11y standards so I am fairly confident that achieving those requirements will require very little action.

If you’re aware of any compliance issues that you feel we haven’t yet addressed then we would be happy to hear about it.

    Good morning David,

yes, I can confirm that GP and GB are prepared for the new standards in Europe 2025, that was the reason to go for your products as it makes my work around inclusion far easier.

I have just installed the beta versions of GB, what strikes me is that I can’t find the option to mark up Aria.

In general, I would be happy if we had the option in the future to mark up the site logo, for example, without having to do it manually via function.php. I would also like to be able to make adjustments on focusing links with the Tab (border width, style, color) directly via the general GP options.

These would be two nice little features for the future.

Many thanks to you and the whole team for your ongoing professional support and work!

    Stephan

  • Thank you for the great feedback it is much appreciated to get real world feedback of our products.

Aria fields in the Free GB plugin only appear where we know it’s 100% necessary, for example a Button that only displays a Icon and no visible text has the aria-label field for the button.

The Pro plugin has the Advanced Attributes option found under the blocks settings Advanced panel. With that option you can add any attributes you require to a blocks HTML.

Is there something we are missing that you feel should be present in ether plugin ?

Regarding links in the Theme, it something we are reviewing as part of a future update. But link styles can get super complicated and may require some CSS to treat them. If that something you want assistance with , then open a new topic and we can help out.

  • thank you David
