Hi team,
Super weird issue that we just noticed today, on lots of pages it is showing the blog archive rather than the page content on the front end (backend is normal) – also missing Edit page in the admin bar on front end as it thinks it’s an archive page.
Where is this set in the theme? How can I fix this? This is very new as I’ve been working on re-design of pages nearly every day.
Thank you!

Hi there,
Try going to Settings > Reading and make sure Your latest posts is not selected under the Your homepage displays section.

Hi Alvind,
I have checked that. It’s set to static page with nothing set for the blog page as we use an Element for that. The homepage is showing fine thank god but lots of pages have the blog class. Not all which is the weird thing.

Apparently the issue doesn’t appear to be random. Top-level page URLs such as /about/, /contact/, and /what-we-do/ are being treated as the blog, while nested pages such as /about/team/ work correctly.
This points to a WordPress permalink/rewrite-rule conflict. Could you please try the following?
Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes without changing anything.
Clear all caching, including WP Engine, Autoptimize, and Cloudflare caches.
Check one of the affected pages again.
If that doesn’t resolve it, please temporarily disable any recently added or updated plugins and custom snippets particularly anything related to redirects, permalinks, custom post types, or taxonomies.
Let me know how that goes.

Hi Alvin,
Thanks for that, I have done all and no change. I disabled Yoast which we use for redirects. I have recently deleted the Custom Post Types plugin back on Aug 11th, but this problem only started today or perhaps yesterday.
I’m currently waiting on WPE support to create a staging site for me as that didn’t work either, and then I will test each plugin to try and narrow it down.
If you have any other ideas please let me know! We are a charity and the donate page is showing the blog archive… Slightly freaking out.
Thank you!

That’s what I can tell so far from checking the frontend. If you already have a staging site, you can share a temporary admin login with us so we can take a closer look.
By the way, have you tried asking WP Engine about the issue? It’s possible that something at the server level is causing the redirect, so it would be worth checking with them as well.

Hi Alvind,
I restored the site from a backup and it’s working now.
FYI here is explanation, Support said there was a crash:
“The crash was caused by a missing native WordPress function (_wp_apply_block_content_filters()), not code inside Yoast. Deactivating Yoast didn’t restore the missing core file. Server-level object caching (Redis/Memcached) held onto the broken site state in server memory even after plugins were toggled off. The initial crash corrupted the database’s permalink structure. Removing Yoast didn’t automatically rebuild those routing rules. Jetpack and Meow Gallery Pro updated right before Yoast. The issue was a combined mismatch between those plugin files and your WordPress core version”
Thank you for support as always!

That’s great to hear! 🙂
