Hello,
I updated the theme plugins a few days ago and they don’t appear to need an update (when you look at the plugin list). However, there is a notification that says “GeneratePress has an update. Update now.”
Is that a glitch? -

The notification is referring the GP theme, not the GP Premium plugin.
Click the update button should take you to dashboard > themes.

I updated the GeneratePress theme and then installed WordPress 6.8.1 once again, but the issues on the homepage persist. So, the theme update didn’t remedy the homepage problems.
Is there a way to find out if the theme is incompatible with the new wordpress core?

The theme is compatible with WP 6.8.1, multiple of my sites are running both together with no issue.
I don’t see the issue you mentioned on home page, this is what I see:

I already downgraded wordpress core again, which is why everything looks normal.
