Hello GeneratePress Support,
I hope this message finds you well.
I’m reaching out to inquire about the compatibility of GeneratePress themes, specifically Newsroom and Mellow, with a change I am considering in the Media Settings of my WordPress site (please refer to the attached screenshot).
I’ve been advised to set all image dimensions to zero under Settings > Media to prevent WordPress from creating multiple versions of each uploaded image, as it may unnecessarily increase storage usage. However, before applying this change, I would like to ensure that this will not interfere with any of the functionalities or layouts of the themes I’m using, especially Newsroom and Mellow. Do these themes rely on any of the default image sizes like thumbnails or medium images?
Additionally, I would appreciate your advice regarding the option to save media in separate folders based on month and year. Since my site is expected to accumulate thousands of images over time, I am wondering if disabling this setting (i.e., saving all uploads in a single directory) could potentially cause performance or management issues in the long run.
I’ve searched through the forum but couldn’t find any posts addressing these specific questions. It’s possible I may have been using the wrong keywords.
Thank you very much for your assistance, and I look forward to hearing your recommendations!
Best regards,

Hi there,
There shouldn’t be any issues with the sites themselves if you do this.
That being said, WordPress uses
srcset
to display an appropriately sized image for the device the user is using. So if a user is on mobile, your site will load the smaller image for them, which is good for performance reasons (a large image doesn’t have to fully load). If you do this, it may stop WordPress from being able to do this. It’s worth testing.
As for the organization question, this is really up to your preference. Storing things in dated folders will likely end up being more manageable in the long-run. At least I would feel better that way.
Hope this helps!
