Search results merging with header

  • I’m not sure how to go about fixing this… I added a search icon to my menu bar (Appearance > Customize > Layout > Primary Navigation). It works great, but the search results page has my site header overlayed on top of the Search Results header, and it’s like my nav has turned transparent. I’m probably not explaining that correctly, so here’s a screenshot — https://i.postimg.cc/QN09xpnx/Screenshot-2024-06-06-074354.png

Is there an easy fix for this? My site is: https://discoveringhockinghills.com if you want to test it live.

  • Hi there,

your site is using a Header Element, found in Appearance > Elements which is merging the Site Header with the top of the content.
Which is fine for those pages with a Hero image.
If you edit that Element you can set the Display Rules Exclusion to exclude Search Results and No Results pages. To remove the merge from them

  • OMG… So simple! I’m still learning. 😊 Thank you for the fast response David!

  • That did solve the merge problem very quickly. But now, on the search results page, my header has a white background and I can’t see the menu at all unless I hover my mouse up there. Does that fix require some CSS?

  • In the Header Element you have options to edit the Header and Navigation colors.
Those will override the colors set in the Csutomizer > Colors.

Ideally you should set the Customizer > Colors to what you require with no merged header ( eg. on search results )
And use the Header Element colors to make them transparent.

  • Got it, and it’s fixed now. Easy-peasy (when you know what the heck you’re doing). LOL! Thanks again David!

  • Glad to be of help!
