Set a “content example” in dynamic elements

  • When making elements for CPT’s everything just says “Post Meta” when editing. Is there any way we can set an example post or something like that so when can actually view it in action when editing. Or did i miss a function where you could do that?

I just made a CPT and connected my GP element to that CPT.

    TIA

  • Hi Peter.

I am not sure I understand correctly, do you want to have some prebuilt content when creating a new post for your CPT? You could create a pattern with all the info so that the user could just insert this pattern and start editing. What type of element is the one that you have connected to your CPT? Is it a content template? Do you have any custom fields, possibly ACF?

  • Hi George

It is a Content template element, connected to a ACF Custom Post Type. When editing the content template element, and inserting dynamic tags they all appear as “Post Meta” because it doesn’t know what to display in the editor. I would like to set some kind of reference, so instead of “Post Meta” appearing on everything with dynamic tags, it actually pulls data from a post so i can see it in action.

    Thanks for quick reply!

  • Hi.

It’s not possible to dynamically preview the post meta inside the element. What you could do is select Specific Post from the SOURCE dropdown menu inside the dynamic tags modal for the ACF field you are working on. This way you would actually get a preview for this particular post. Once you are happy with how the post meta look, you can switch the SOURCE back to Current Post.

  • Maybe this feature could be considered in a future release? The workaround you suggested doesn’t really work when you use many dynamic tags on the same element.

  • Hmmm, what kind of fields were you trying to preview inside the Element? You can also post feature requests here.

  • Oh I didn’t know about feature requests! I use many content templates for the design of my CPT’s so it’s just whole pages with dynamic tags to the Page meta

  • Ok, strange because I’ve tried it with a few and I can see the fields previewing. But indeed, this is not an ideal solution, so I believe a feature request could help in this instance.

  • Weird… This is my configuration and how it looks:

  • Sorry, my mistake, Peter, you are right, if multiple locations are selected then it’s not possible to get a proper preview. Maybe just select the CPT single posts temporarily as the display condition to get a proper preview, then fill out the rest when everything is set up!

  • No worries! I tried setting the location “Brancher” to a specific post but I’m still unable to get a preview?

  • Actually, I will correct myself again! The Location of where the element will appear is not related to the preview. The dynamic tag source is. Look at the screenshot below. I am setting an element with custom fields related to a private tour CPT. I am previewing the tour location (London) of that custom field by selecting a specific tour post from the dropdown.

    Specific post selected for preview

  • Yes by setting a specific post source it will generate a preview, but that’s not viable when making the content templates for CPTs. I will try making a feature request and see where it goes. Thank you so much!

  • Ok, Peter, no problem, good luck!
