Site theme not fully applied when logged into wordpress

  • Hi,

So, today I tried to go to my website, but it was not there; neither was any of my content on the backend. Not there when I was logged into WordPress. If I visited from another browser logged out of WordPress, it showed up. So I contacted hosting. They repaired the database and told me that the postmeta table was invalid.
After they made the repair…..I could see the site again when logged into WordPress, but now the GeneratePress theme is all messed up.
But it seems to be only messed up when I am logged into WordPress. It looks normal when visiting from browsers I am not logged into WordPress on.
Thanks for your patience with me. It has been a very long time since I’ve had to dig into the themes, and I’m a little unbalanced here.

  • Hi there,

I had a quick look; the backend looks normal.
Can you share the pages that are messed up?

  • Thanks for that Ying! It’s the front page…..but only when I am logged in. I did some digging though…..and I use a plugin called Seraphinite Accelerator and I believe that because they had to repair the database, they undid all the things Seraphinite Accelerator did. So I looked into the plugin and it is working right now.
It will take some time for it to complete. I am going to let it run and check back on it when complete to see if the issue clears up.
I will let you all know when that happens. I truly appreciate your response. Stay tuned and thank you!

  • No problem 🙂 Glad it’s being fixed right now.

  • Hi Ying…..so things ran overnight but it seems now the theme isn’t working again. I tried to make some fixes but maybe I did something to break it. Can you poke in on it again? Appreciate you.

  • The homepage looks normal to me. Are there any other pages that are broken?

  • Strange. The homepage for me, logged in and logged out, from my regular browser and other browsers without cookies….is stacked, my normal layout is not there. When clicking into articles, the styling on the review boxes is missing….just a bunch of small things are off. Can you share a screenshot of what it looks like for you? Did you happen to clear cookies and cache to see the fresh site? Again, I really appreciate your help.

  • If it helps. Here are some of the things I tried when the site homepage and other elements went wonky.

Dynamic CSS Print Method: Checked Appearance > Customize > General; confirmed Dynamic CSS Print Method was set to Inline Embedding. We also attempted toggling it to External File and back to Inline Embedding to force CSS regeneration.

Theme Blog Module Options: Checked Appearance > Customize > Layout > Blog to confirm Display posts in columns was enabled.

GP Premium Modules: Deactivated and reactivated the Blog module under Appearance > GeneratePress to re-trigger module options.

Block Elements Re-saving: Located Block Elements under Appearance > Elements (Display Rules targeted to Front Page / Archives) and attempted to re-save / update them to force metadata re-writing to wp_postmeta.

Caching / Performance: Deactivated and purged the caching/optimization plugin (Seraphinite Accelerator); the single-column layout breakdown persisted in native WordPress without caching active.

Let me know if that helps.

  • Oh, I thought the homepage was supposed to be stacked, as I don’t know what the expected styles are.

The homepage is built with the WP SHOW POSTS plugin, which we have already stopped developing or supporting; it has been deprecated for years.

I would recommend using Generateblocks’ query block to rebuild the homepage.

As for the single post review box, are you referring to this section?

  • OK, thanks. I will see if I can muddle my way through Generateblocks. The persons who helped put together the site with GP are no longer here. And it has been a very long time since I’ve messed with it.

And yes, the single post review box screenshot you have there is what I am referring to.

  • Looks like the review section is built with another plugin; in this case, you will need to check with the plugin’s support. I assume some of the CSS is not loading, just like the CSS from WPSP.

  • Hi Ying…..sigh, so a lot has broken on my end.
Can you suggest someone who knows Generatepress that I can contact to help fix this?
I tried Generateblocks to fix the front page but I am struggling with it.
Let me know if you have anyone I can contact. thanks

  • I just checked your site again; it looks like the WPSP is doing better than before. This is what I see:

Can you check if it is the expected style?

  • Yeah, I tried to have a run with Generate Blocks but I am stuck. I was trying to get my layout back like I had it before. That was as far as I got. I am still trying, but I have no experience with blocks and the fact that show posts plugin was used in other areas…means I have to go around and find all the broken things.

I am going to continue working on it but I’m not really equiped for this. At this point, I have no other option but to just keep trying to fix it myself.

  • No, only the first section is built with GB, the rest of the sections are WPSP, and they are showing in columns, so are they fixed already?
    https://app.screencast.com/L9S6mlFGCQRTr

  • No.
The rest of the sections are also not correct. I mean they are but they’re not. Mostly it’s formatting. Font colors are off and some other oddball things. THe review box is messed up. So many things to check….I started with the top because I have to start somewhere.
