I’ve heard rumors that the GenerateBlocks Grid Block will soon become a legacy block, yet so many of the new Patterns in the GenerateBlocks Pattern Library use it. Also, previously, Global Styles could be assigned to the Grid Block, but now, the new Global Styles cannot be assigned to the Grid Block. So it’s confusing to a day-1 GenerateBlocks user as to what to do moving forward on new websites using the new Global Styles system. Do I use the GenerateBlocks Grid Block or not?

Hey Tim,
The Grid block will become a legacy block in 2.0, but it will continue to work as it always has. From 2.0 onwards, the new “Grid” block will be available in the block inserter, but the old Grid block will continue to work on your pages.
When 2.0 comes out, we’ll update our sites and patterns, but there’s no need for anyone else to bother converting it unless they need something in the new block that the existing block doesn’t have.

Thanks. I’ll avoid the legacy Grid block for my new builds then. I’ve come up with a Global Styles system using CSS Grid with the Container block that should get me through until the new Grid block comes out.

Global Styles with CSS Grid are definitely the way to go! 🙂
