SVG Icons Disappearing Again Site Wide

  • Hi there,

My issue is, SVG Icons Disappearing site wide on accordions with title type set to container.

This is important as for mobile, I really need those up down arrows to indicate to users they can expand sections.

I’ve had issues with this in the past and previously submitted a support request, https://generate.support/topic/collapse-drop-down-container-for-mobile-invalid-content-errors/#post-141487 , and the thought was make sure my user is set to admin and save it again.

It seemed for a long time these were working and the SVG icons were staying put – and now, recently, they’ve all disappeared again site wide.

WordPress: recently I updated it, (and I think I also recently updated GB Pro and GP) and I don’t know if it happened then and I didnt notice till now or not.

SVG Sanitization : my user role is admin, so I don’t think it’s the problem that was previously suggested.

Method I’m using : I’m using for this is the standard, 2 svg icons + some css: https://generate.support/topic/gb-accordion-title-to-a-h2/page/2/ . (and I’m doing this because I need headers for the accordions not just buttons).

Non-default SVG icons: I am using GB icons, only they’re entered in the icon input field because for this method, I need 2 SVG’s in there to toggle.

Clue: the headline block where the svg is disappearing, the text I entered stays on the page, but in the List View on the left side it says [object Object]

Idea: I see that this is a solution recommended, https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/fix-svg-icons-not-saving/ , but this says for svg icons not saving, mine usually save and it’s only later that they’ll disappear on me (I added some non-native svg’s recently on one page and also had a problem with them disappearing so maybe this is it?)

I have a TON of these drop downs across multiple pages and it will be very time consuming to fix them all (again) – there must be a permanent way to fix this I hope?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

May I see your site with the issue so I can inspect the HTML code?

    Let me know 🙂

  • Yes sure 🙂

There is a sticky TOC, this should have the up/down arrow svg’s which have disappeared.

And the tables at the top of the page, all the headers like “Product Options”, “Warranty”, “Score” that are in blue, on mobile they should all have had the up down svg arrows – or – rather – they did have them and now they’ve disappeared.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Just to confirm—is this the section that’s supposed to have an icon?

I inspected the source, and it seems like the icon isn’t there at all. Would it be possible for you to provide a temporary admin login so we can take a closer look?

  • The icons are supposed to be on the accordion drop downs, which I have on this page for mobile like I mentioned.

So sorry not at the very, very top of the page, just directly below the quick links you’ve pictured there there are product tables, those are the tables I’m referring to which on mobile use accordion drop downs to fit all the information and I need those icons there to show those sections can be expanded.

Switch to mobile view and you’ll see them, that is you’ll see the headers but no up down SVG icons on them…

  • I do not see any SVG code in the accordion button either, can you provide an admin login for us to check the backend?

    Let me know 🙂

  • Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying – the SVG icons are disappearing – and the header which they were part of will then say [Object object] within the GB editor instead of the text which should be there for the header.

You won’t see an SVG icon on the header within the GB editor either, even though they were originally there when the page was published/updated.

  • Hi Ying, I had another thought on this.

Is it possible that the SVG icons get wiped – and for some reason those headers say [Object object] – after saving a page in the classic wordpress editor instead of the Generateblocks editor?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, or something I should have known.

I use Rankmath to do my meta titles and descriptions, and I usually just jump into the classic wordpress editor to update those because they’re right on page there and then I just hit update page, I haven’t ever noticed a problem with this before but maybe this is the whole issue?

  • after saving a page in the classic wordpress editor instead of the Generateblocks editor?

You mean you saved a page built with blocks in the classic editor? If so, it’s possible. But I’m not 100% sure.

If you add an icon again, and save it in the block editor, does the icon appeara?

If so, then re-save it in the classic editor to test.

    Let me know 🙂

  • Yes, I build all my pages with the block builder, and then I have been doing updates to rank math, and the custom fields section (to add custom schema) in the classic editor.

I tried it a couple times, saving in the classic editor does seem to strip out the icons.

I can remember to only save in the GB editor from now on, only I wouldnt know where I could add my custom fields if I did that (though they have the little update button on each custom field so maybe I dont have to save the whole page and i can just do that in the classic editor).

Am I the only one who’s doing this and has had this problem? Haha I’ve been making SO much work for myself if this really is the cause.

  • I haven’t heard of other users having the same issue… Hope we are in the right direction, and from now on, not to save the pages with icons in the classic editor.
