Underline links appearing as strike through

  • Hi, on 2 sites I just switched to GP Explore, some links, not all, and it’s very random, are appearing as strike-through, rather than underlined. Do you have a fix, please? Example in the post in private info.

  • Hi there,

The strike-through links have a CSS class broken_link attached it and the CSS to make it strike through:

I don’t believe that’s something implemented by the theme but I can’t tell as you are using a caching/optimization plugin that is blocking the source code.

Can you disable all plugins except for GP Premium and GenerateBlocks to see if the issue still exists?

    Let me know 🙂

  • Thanks, Do you mean Cloudflare too? The link isn’t broken, it works for me, but I’ve replaced it with a different Viator link and the underscore is back to normal. Maybe a Viator glitch, it looks like they changed something in the way tours appear. Do you just need the HTML from that paragraph or the whole page? HTML for the para is below, before I changed it. You probably don’t mean that though.

  • I would like you to do #1 here to debug first:

I’m not familiar with Viator links so this is something you might need to check with their support team – the theme has no idea whether a link is broken or not and I don’t believe WP knows either.

If all the strike-through links are Viator links then it’s likely a glitch on their end.

I’m not asking for any HTML at all 🙂

  • It’s Viator and GetYourGuide, the redirected links, where a tour has changed, are appearing as strike throughs. There’s hundreds.

  • I’ve switched off the underlining in “customize”, there is no CSS code for underlining and I’ve cleared the cache – they’re still underlined or struck through. Even on fresh GetYourGuide and Viator links that I’ve just changed for new links. If I could switch it off I could just make the links a different colour, rather than underlined. Is there another place where underlining can be disabled?

  • Hi there,

I’ve checked your site, and the links look good now. There are no underlines or strikethroughs. Have you managed to fix it?

  • I fixed it with css to remove decorations (underscore and strike through) and just change the text colour with css instead.
It’s not “fixed” but it’s hidden.
I did my own research and found the cause, multiple requests from a broken link checker tool, causing GYG and Viator to see those requests as spam and lock the tool out, so they were coming back as broken when they’re not.
I’ve deleted the broken link tool, they may work OK again now, but I haven’t tried as I’m still trying to remove date published and get the favicon to display.
Weird that strike through never happened on Trellis though.

  • So it appears it’s caused by a third-party tool. I’m glad you found the cause. 🙂
