Update Check Encountered Error on ‘gp-premium’

  • Hello,

Update Check Encountered Error on ‘gp-premium’

For some weeks now this issue popps up, Wordfence sends report.

I have manually downloaded and updated version 2.5.0. Same issue continues.

    How can this be solved?

    Best regards

Jerker Andersson at Optihus AB in Sweden

  • Hi there,

That’s strange. We received a security warning from WordFence before and released GPP 2.4.1 to fix it:
    https://generatepress.com/gp-premium-2-4-1/

We have not received any other reports since then.

What is the exact error you are getting?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for fast answer..

The auto check for new versions don´t work. I get this message from WordPress: “Update Check Encountered Error on ‘gp-premium’”

Can I check something else here?

  • WordFence might not be able to update premium plugins for you – might be worth checking with their support team.

This is the usual process for updating GP Premium: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/updating-gp-premium/

  • Maybe I was unclear. I know very well that Wordfence does not update any plugin. However, Wordfence can alert e.g. like now, when contact with your system cannot be reached.

The fact that WordPress under the plugin page cannot detect that you have updated your plugin also indicates some kind of contact problem, just as Wordfence alerts.

I have read through previous threads, about maybe the same problem. The only question is how to solve it. I would like automatic update ping to happen via WordPress, which now does not work.

  • The usual process for updating GP have always been, through all years I´ve used GP, that WordPress tells there´s a new version to update. I can as it is now miss some important security updates etc.. Not the best scenario. 🙂

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure what method Wordfence is using to check for plugin updates, but it’s odd that it’s still flagging GP Premium as having an update available even when it’s up to date. Is this causing any issues elsewhere on your site, such as GP Premium not functioning correctly when Wordfence flags it?

  • Hi Alvind,

The problem is that I don´t get any message through WordPress when there´s a new version of GP to update with/download. Even when the version is up to date the error message sends from Wordfence.

This has nothing to do with Wordfence. Wordfence only alarms when the connection to your server for version check etc. dont work. Wordfence alarms every day about this since several weeks ago.

    Here´s the message I get:

    Medium Severity Problems:

    * Update Check Encountered Error on ‘gp-premium’

I have to manually check after new GP versions and manually download and install to get it updated.

No other issues detected, as answer to your question..

  • It seems that your server might be blocked by our security measures, which could explain why it can’t ping our server for updates. We recently faced a massive DDoS attack, prompting us to tighten our security, which may have resulted in several web server IPs being included in the block list.

If you don’t mind, please provide your server’s IP address so we can check if this is the issue. You can enter it in the Private Information field, and it will only be visible to us.
