Every once in a while when I upload an image to the media library 2 copies (exactly the same) upload. It doesn’t happen very often – could this be GP related?

This wouldn’t be related to GeneratePress — GP doesn’t hook into the WordPress media upload process at all, so it has no way to cause duplicate uploads.
This is more commonly caused by:
- An image optimization plugin (Smush, ShortPixel, Imagify, etc.) occasionally duplicating entries during processing
- A CDN or offload media plugin syncing files
- The browser double-firing the upload request (can happen on slower connections or with a quick double-click)
If you want to narrow it down, try temporarily deactivating plugins one at a time (starting with anything image/media related) and see if the behavior stops. That should point you to the culprit.
