Vertical center align containers in grid + equal height

  • Hi,
Maybe I am missing a point or two here, but in the latest version of GB I can’t find out how to set containers in a grid to set vertical align to center, nor to set an equal height of containers in a grid.
    Can someone please help?
    Thnak you.
    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

Can you take a look at this article first and see if it helps?
    https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/equal-height-grid-containers/

If you need further help with this, please provide the link to your site.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Leo,

    Thank you for your reply.

The article is very helpful and solved the equal height of grid containers.

    One question remaining though:

How can I set the vertical alignment of containers to center?

    Thanks again.

    best P.

  • Hi Fernando,

thank you for your quick reply.

I was already aware of that article but I had hoped to be able to avoid trying to explain our clients about Flex and Inline Flex and so on…

In terms of user-friendliness for our clients at least this is a set back compared to earlier version where it was a simple “top-center-bottom’ choice for each container.

I do realize that the new versions of both GP and GB contains many more settings and possibilities, but for our clients this will only add to their confusion when they try to create page layouts themselves.

… and some of our clients do want to be able to do that…

We can’t begin to teach our clients – who for the most part are non-coders and non-techies – to choose between different layout options that demand some level of knowlegde and understanding of Flex and other layout technologies.

They don’t have the time nor the interest in trying to understand things like that.

For us – the developers GP and GB are just great, but for our those of our clients who want to be self-driven to the highest possible degree this is a set back.

    best

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

Thank you for your message and for sharing your concerns about the new system of GB. I completely understand your perspective and appreciate your feedback.

I agree that the new system may require a learning curve for users who are not familiar with CSS and layout technologies. However, I also believe that it offers more possibilities for users who have some CSS skills and want to create more advanced and customized layouts.

Before the new system, users often needed to write custom CSS for their designed layout, but now, much less CSS is needed thanks to the new system. This means that users can achieve their desired layouts without having to write as much code.

While I understand that this may be a setback for some of your clients, making a professional-level website is not a job for everybody, and it requires technical knowledge and understanding. That’s why so many people are using page builders, as they don’t require any website-related skills.

However, for those clients who want to learn and have more control over their website’s layout, we have our documentation ready to help them understand the new system better. And we are also trying hard to make the UI more friendly and intuitive while offering more options.

Lastly, to answer your question, you just need to set the container to display:flex, align-items:center. This is very basic flexbox CSS.

  • Hi Ying,

Thank you for your elaborated reply.

I agree with the things you point out and we still love both GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks very much.

We might try to convince a client or two to go back to a page builder instead. 🙂

    cheers

    Peter

  • You are welcome Peter 🙂

We might try to convince a client or two to go back to a page builder instead. 🙂

Page builders are generally easy to use, the only downside might be the performance. But if performance is not the top priority for your clients, then using a page builder is totally fine!
