Website very very slow after activation GenerateBlocks / GenerateBlocks pro

  • Hi,

My website https://www.anleitungsportal.de/ is very very slow after i activate GenerateBlocks and / or GenerateBlocks PRO. If i disable the plugins the website is fast, but of course the layout does not work in that case.

I tried the latest update (stable) + the latest Development update.
But with both versions the same issue.

    How can i solve this?

  • Hi there,

Is the slowness a recent issue, or has it been ongoing? I tried temporarily deactivating the GenerateBlocks plugin, but didn’t notice any improvement.

Since you’re using the GB Pro Alpha version, the free GB plugin also needs to be the Alpha version. You can download it from the release post here: https://generatepress.com/introducing-generateblocks-2-2-0-generateblocks-pro-2-5-0/

  • Hi,

The problem is new, before i had no problems.
Try deactivating both the GB plugin + Pro plugin and you will see the website is fast.

I’ve updated as you said, but problem is still there.

    Greetings,

    Joachim

  • For now i disabled both the GB + GB pro plugin and i switched theme
    Now there are no problems.

So something is going wrong with the GB / GB pro.

    Please check it.

  • Can you ask your hosting provider to enable WP_DEBUG and then check the error log to see whether any issues are being logged? I’m not sure what could be causing the issue, so the error log may provide some information about the problem.

    Let us know.

  • Unfortunately, the log remains empty, even after enabling logging in wp-config.php. I’ve temporarily disabled the plugins so the site is operational again. I would appreciate it if you could investigate this issue further. I already migrated the site from hosting provider A to SiteGround, as I initially suspected a hosting issue, but that does not seem to be the case.

  • I logged into your site and enabled the plugins, and I did see the slow issue when GB/GB Pro is enabled.

But I’m not able to disable them now, it’s too slow. Can you do that? Thanks! And can you check the error log again to see if there’s anything since I’ve just activated the plugins?

If it’s a live site, can you provide a staging site login so we can do some more testing on it?

    Let me know 🙂

  • Hi,

This is in the error log:

Please let me know if you can see the issue, otherwise i will create a staging website.

  • Looking at the error log, your server’s max_execution_time of 120 is a bit low. WordPress recommends setting it to at least 300.

Also, under Tools > Site Health in the admin dashboard, there are a couple of critical warnings that need attention:

An active PHP session was detected
An error occurred with the REST API

Could you ask your host to address all the issues above first?
