Background Image only visible on Desktop view

  • Dear GP-Support-Team,

I needed to create a new account for this forum and all of my old posts are gone and further I could not search if someone else has asked this question yet, so sorry if I did understand something wrong here.

Anyhow, regarding my question: Is it possible to have a site working like this one: https://matthewhall.os.fan

Here you see that the background image is clearly visible on desktop view, but once you go to mobile view, you only see the content in the middle. I played around in GeneratePress but wasn’t able to replicate this. Is this possible?

Many thanks in advance and have a good week!

  • Hi there,

we moved to a new forum, if you want to review your old forum topics then login to your account in https://generatepress.com and then you can view your topics and search other content at https://generatepress.com/support/

So that design, you could add a Background image to the Body using the Background module in GPP:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/backgrounds-overview/

And then if you have a Customizer > Color > Content –> Background this will obscure the body but just in the content area.

let me know if that helps

  • Hi David, thanks for the info and the help!

Attached is the site, I managed to do what you suggested, but still struggle getting rid of some borders on the left and the right on mobile view.

    Open to ideas.

Thanks and have a good week!

  • ah ok, so you have a Full Width page, which means the sites content container covers the entire body.
Go to Customizer > Colors > Content and set the background color to Transparent.

The alternative to this is to not do any of the above and edit the page and add the Background image to the Container Block. As long as your side columns don’t have a color you will see the image from the container

  • Thank you very much David, that fixed most of it. As you can see now, I do have some white on the bottom of the page now (on desktop view only), despite the fact that I set the custom background image to background-size: cover;. I also do not seem to have any some margin active on the container that makes the content look like this. How do I make the background image cover everything?

  • Did you fix it ? as the only white space i see is on hard scroll where the browwsers background comes into view.

  • Hi David,
yes, it seems to be fixed. It is shown to me when I am logged in, but not when I am logged out. So, everything working, thanks a lot!

  • Glad to hear that!
