blog page featured image

  • hi,
I’m having issues to use a featured image for the blog page.

I’ve set a Block – Page Hero header element for all pages, to use the featured image dynamic. this works fine for all other pages, but the blogpage does not use it.

    How can I set it?

It keeps using the image of the first post in the grid.

    thanks!

  • Hi Vala,

We recommend using a Block Element – Content Template for Blog pages.

This article has a video showing how to add the Featured image of Posts for the Blog page: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-page-hero/

You can also use a GB Image Block that retrieves the Featured image in your Content Templtae. More details here: https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/dynamic-data-options-overview/#background-image-source

  • hi,

I’m already using a element as template and also using dynamic data.
Works fine for all pages, only the main blog page is using an image of the first post and ignores my setting.

This is what I found out:

If the page is set as blogpage under /wp-admin/options-reading.php it does not work and ignores the thumb.
If I don’t set any page here, it works.
I’ll create a separate blogfeed and keep it like this for now.

    thanks

  • Hi there,

the Blog page has a special place in WP, and part of that means it don’t behave like a normal page, and WP ignores any meta box content it may contain including that of the Featured Image.

    So you need to:

    1. exclude the Blog page from your Hero
    2. create a hero specifically for the blog page with a static background image.

  • Hi,
    I did that. Works.
    thanks

  • Glad to hear that
