Bugs in Generate Blocks 1.9.0?

  • Just since updating GenerateBlocks, I have experienced the following problems with a 2 year-old website:

*The site is not responsive in the hero banner and with a plugin called Easy Image Collage
*The ‘Portfolio’ dropdown menu on mobile and Safari desktop isn’t working
*The ‘return-to-the-top’ carrot does not appear in Safari desktop, but it does appear on desktop in Chrome
*While tinkering with it, I encountered the white screen of death, although that issue is rectified for now, I’m worried the problem will come back again.

I cleared the cache in WordPress, Chrome, and Safari. I did not deactivate the Easy Image Collage plugin as I was afraid of losing all that work.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

  • Hi there,

can you try purging the SG Optimiser caches and any page caching you have on the server ?
As it’s most likely a cached code issue.

    Let me know.

  • Thanks for your response. I emptied the cache on SiteGround. It did not rectify any of the issues. The collage plugin hasn’t been updated for a month. I wonder if it’s a compatibility issue.

  • For reference, i see errors relating to a SG Optimizer cached file in the browser developers tools.
Can you disable the SG Optimizer so i can take a closer look?

  • Okay, it appears all the issues are resolved when the SG Optimizer plugin is deactivated.

  • So SG will have cached the optimized code, and it may just have required those caches to be cleared, which can sometimes take a few attempts.
Re-activate the SG Optimizer and purge its caches, and purge any page caching on the server.
If the issue continues then a setting in the optimizer needs adjusting. It will be one of the CSS optimizations, to debug which one , disable them one at a time and purge the caches to see if its the issue.

  • Thanks so much David. In addition to the caching and CSS issues, there was also a problem with the feature ‘Combine Javascript Files,’ limiting the number of executions. All is well now. Thanks again.
