Coming Soon/Maintenance Mode Page

  • Hi,
    I want to add a coming soon page to my website, so the public can only see this page, whilst I work on the rest of the site. I need to be able to access admin and see the rest of the site. My client also needs to be able to see the rest of the site.

    Can this be setup in Generate Press? Or can it only be done with a plugin? Could oyu recommend one please that doesn’t interfere with GeneratePress.

    Thanks,
    Mel

  • Hi there,

    it would require a plugin, and any of them should work with GeneratePress.
    I like them to be simple which this one is:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/slim-maintenance-mode/

  • Thanks for the recommendation, I checked it out in the WP forum but one post said only the Administrator role can view the front end of the website. I need a plugin that lets me send access links to view the rest of the website to my client.

    I have “Under Construction Page” plugin already setup, but can’t use it anymore since it loads google fonts and the OMGF plugin that loads google fonts to the server doesn’t work for the coming soon page.

    Are there any other plugins you think would be suitable? It has to be a free one. I only need to show a background image and a heading on that page, or even a default page would be fine.

  • This is a popular one that i see being used here regularly:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/maintenance/

    And it has those extra features and uses the bunny cdn for its fonts.

  • Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, this one only allows admin users to view the rest of the site. So it is not suitable.

    I have spent much time researching different plugins and have not yet found a suitable one. I am at a loss as what to do.

    I have UnderConstructionPage plugin already set up, but as I mentioned in a previous support topic/post I can’t use it as it uses Google fonts.The support doesn’t answer any emails ):

    I found the following online, would this work with GP?
    (I might have already asked you this, sorry I can’t remember now.)

    Try adding this code to your child theme functions.php file:

    add_filter(‘cs_google_fonts_uri’, function() {
    return ‘//fonts.bunny.net/css’;
    });

    It will grab the fonts from Bunny Fonts instead of Google.

  • Unfortunately, this one only allows admin users to view the rest of the site.

    This i do not understand what you mean.
    In WP each user role has different limitations on what the user can see.
    If you need the user to see everything on a site then they need to have a Admin role.
    Thats not something i would expect a maintenance plugin to change.

    Regarding the Bunny Font – as per my previous answer 🙂 no GP has no control over that and no that function will not work on GP.

  • No sorry this was a misunderstanding. I would like my client to view the pages of my site beyond the coming soon page. I don’t want to grant her an admin role just yet, just so she can view the website.

    Access links to view would be something I prefer.

    Sorry if this topic went in the direction of out-of-scope. Thanks for having been so helpful.

  • Yeah, unfortunately don’t know of a simple solution for that.
    You may want to ask in our Facebook group if anyone has some solutions:

  • Hi,
    Thanks for your reply and your assistance. I couldn’t find a suitable free plugin, so I had to buy a PRO license for the Maintenance Plugin. https://wpmaintenancemode.com/

  • Glad to hear you found a working solution

  • Unfortunately, this PRO version of the plugin cost me AUD $120, is difficult to figure out, doesn’t function properly, and has bad customer service. I would not recommend it!

    The coming soon page I created with this is not mobile responsive and the secret access links don’t work.

    The customer support offered to log in as admin and fix the problems instead of providing me with detailed and clear instructions on how to do this myself. They haven’t done this yet and I am stuck with my work until they do it.

    Not happy!

  • Use: https://wordpress.org/plugins/very-simple-website-closed/

    Is free and meets all your requirements.

  • Thanks, I will check it out.
