Create preset of a page

  • Hey,

I want to switch to generate press for an existing website.

I want to recreate every page on a testing site, then create presets of every page and then overwrite the pages on that site I want to change.

Until then I want to have the content that I have right now, so my site is not offline for long.

Is that possible? What are the best practices for this?

    Thanks,
    Timo

  • Hi there,

ask your Hosting provider about a Staging Site.
A Staging site provides an exact clone of your existing site, where you can make the changes you require eg. switch theme, rebuild pages etc without effecting the live site.
Once you’re happy with those changes you can “push” the staging site to live, which overwrites the original site.

  • Hey David,

    thanks for your quick response.

I use a custom hosting. I don‘t think what you recommend works for me.

I only need to save 5 pages or so. Isn‘t creating presets doable somehow?

    Thanks,
    Timo

  • Ok, so on your testing site, you would build out your new pages with the content.
And then for simplicity as its only a few pages, Copy ALL Blocks on that page, the option is available in the Editor top bar 3 dot menu.
Then paste them into your existing site pages, and delete the original content.

  • Ok. Thanks!

I made some edits to a page. Any idea how I can get that brick wall image stretched out to the full page?

    Thanks,

  • In the meantime I found it.

But how can I position myself at the bottom of that brick wall?

  • Looks like the original topic has been resolved.

Can you please open a new topic for the separate question so we can keep track of the progress easily?

    Thanks!

  • Hey Leo!

    Done! Thanks 🙂

  • Thank you!

  • Hey!

David said i can copy/paste a complete page.

I found the copy function, but how do I paste it?

    Thanks!

  • I usually just hit Ctrl V in the page editor 🙂

  • Hey Leo!

    Awesome – Thanks!

  • No problem 🙂
