Elementor Pro and GeneratePress Theme Conflict Affecting Mobile Scrolling

  • I am experiencing a critical issue on my WordPress site that appears to be a conflict between the GeneratePress theme and the Elementor Pro plugin.

    Issue Description:
On mobile devices, when both GeneratePress and Elementor Pro are active, pages cannot scroll normally. Upon attempting to scroll, the page immediately bounces back to the top. This issue does not occur when Elementor Pro is deactivated, nor does it occur with Elementor’s ‘Hello’ theme. This was confirmed by Elementor’s support team, who have suggested that I reach out here for further assistance.

    Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

    • Confirmed the issue on multiple mobile devices.
    • Isolated the problem by systematically deactivating other plugins and removing custom code, identifying the conflict specifically with Elementor Pro when used alongside GeneratePress.
    • Engaged with Elementor support, who acknowledged the theme-plugin conflict.

We are nearing the launch date of our site. This scrolling issue would severely impact the user experience. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide on resolving this conflict.

  • Hi there,

The login credentials you gave aren’t working. Could you please verify them?

I’ve looked into the scrolling problem on your site, but I can’t reproduce it. However, I did come across another issue: scrolling only works after swiping twice; then the page scrolls.

Another thing to check, do you have any Motion Effects active on the site?

  • Hi Alvind,

Sorry about the account access issue. I forgot to click save after creating the account. I have now added the account using the same credentials. Can you try logging in again?

The scrolling issue that you described is the same issue that we are experiencing. We do not have motion effects enabled. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi there,

in your Customizer > Additional CSS you have this:

    html, body { overflow-x: hidden; }

    Which is causing the issue.
NOTE: Customizer CSS gets saved in the theme options database.
So when you switched theme ie. to the Hello theme, that CSS would not be loaded as it got saved in GPs options. Which is why the issue went away.

That CSS is conflicting with Elementor Pros code – possibly the off canvas panel.
To fix the issue you would need to remove that CSS.

As i assume that CSS was added stop the horizontal overflow on the site, you will need to instead fix the cause of the overflow. I ran a quick check and it seems to be the form section in the footer thats causing the issue. Perhaps elementor could take a look at that ?
