Giant svg image appearing on desktop homepage

  • Not too sure why this is happening but this is what i see on desktop for my homepage: https://i.imgur.com/lWCZ7fL.png

    <svg viewBox="0 0 16 16" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><path d="M0 0h16v16H0z" fill="none"></path><path d="M11.5 0h-7C3.675 0 3 .675 3 1.5v13c0 .825.675 1.5 1.5 1.5h7c.825 0 1.5-.675 1.5-1.5v-13c0-.825-.675-1.5-1.5-1.5zM8 15a1 1 0 1 1 0-2 1 1 0 1 1 0 2zm4-3H4V2h8v10z"></path></svg>

This is the large svg icon and it only affects homepage and not the other pages. Mobile is fine as well. Not too sure what is the issue.

  • It’s always a good idea to give SVGs some dimensions in pixel (by default, width and height are set to 100%). Otherwise SVGs tend to use all available space. If done properly, the WP media library will even add the dimensions automatically, if the SVG is used. This can help to prevent layout shifts.

Dimensions in pixel might sound counter-intuitive for SVGs but it is actually a good idea and will do no harm.

  • Hi there,

If I check the site without the cache by adding: ?nocache query var to the end of the URL the the site loads correctly.
So its a badly cached/optimized file causing that issue.

First try clearing all caches inc. browser and re-check the site.

If the issue persist disable any cache/optimisations plugins, clear the browser caches and recheck.
If this works then try re-activating them.
If the issue re-occurs you will need to debug which of those plugin settings are breaking the layout
