Google looking for a missing part of GeneratePress

  • michellecouchfriedman

I just noticed that everyday for the past three months, sometimes several times per day Google bots are looking for a GeneratePress component and they’re hitting a 500 server error every time. I’m not sure what this is or how to correct it. The numbers in the Url change each day, but the main component it “Messenger Channel”. Thank you!

  • It seems the issue is related to the child theme, if you switch to the parent theme, does the issue persist?

And can you provide some more info on this?

I’m not sure how to do that. It sounds like maybe I should ask my developer. Is it difficult to switch between parent theme and child theme? I have a back-up with Kinsta if something goes wrong.

  • It’s easy, but your site might lose some styles when switching to the parent theme.

You can switch themes at appearance > themes.

If the site has traffic, it might be safer to create a staging site and perform the debugging on the staging site.

Ok, that’s a good idea. I’ll speak to my developer on Monday. Thank you!

  • No Problem 🙂
