Header merged with secondary menu

  • Hi,
I have created a secondary menu only to be shown on specific pages for logged in users.

How can I make a header with a hero section that merges with the secondary menu?

I am really stuck with this.

    But maybe I am missing somthing… πŸ™‚

    Thanks for your support.

    bw Peter

  • Hi there,

create your page Hero using a Block Element – Page Hero:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-page-hero/

Thenc create a Header Element, just for merging the hero with the the navigation:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/transparent-header-and-navigation/

  • Hi David,

Thank you for your swift reply.

I know that this is maybe very basic stuff, but I am just wondering how the Header Element will load the Secondary menu, and not the Primary?

    We use both…

The Secondary menu (and the new Header Element) is meant for specific pages only and where users are logged in.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi again David,

Maybe it would be better if you could take a look at the website in question?

I would very much appreciate that.

I can prepare a temporary login without password for you?

Let me know if I should do that, because I can’t make it work…

  • The header element doesn’t actually care what is in the header.
It simply wraps the header in it own container which has a fixed position so it overlays whatever content is at the top of the page.

    So you would still:
    1. enable the Secondary Navigation and use a Layout Element to Disable it where you don’t require.
    2. create a Header Element and use the same Display Rules Locations to display it where the secondary nav is
    3. create a Page Hero for the top of the page content.

    Does that make sense ?

If need be share a URL to the site in the Private Information field below.

  • Hi David,

Thank you for your help, but I must be doing something wrong here…

I have followed your instructions above – although I am not sure whether the Page hero you mention in the third bullet point above should be an Element or just a on-page Page Hero…

I can get the secondary menu to display solely (without the Primary menu) on pages assigned to the Secondary menu.

But the Secondary menu also shows up on all other pages where the intention is to just show the Primary menu…

  • Can i see the site ? Specifically on a page where you want to apply the effect.

  • Hi David,

I had to pull it off the client’s live website and then I moved it to a Local dev site.

I’ll set it up again and then I will send you temporary login – I don’t think I will be able to do it today, but first tomorrow.

    Thanks – Peter

  • Ok, let us know πŸ™‚

  • Hi David,

    Thank you for your patience!

I have now tried to implement a secondary navigation on specific pages according to your instructions above on the cleint’s website.

So far it’s only implemented on two specific pages.

I am sending you a temporary login to the client’s website.

You will find the info needed in the Private information field.

    Thank you again. πŸ™‚

  • OK, so i see the 2 pages, and they look good to me.
I see the Secondary Navigation and it is merged with the hero content.
    What needs to change ?

  • Hi David,

Well, I am a little bit sorry to maby have wasted your time, but after I sent my last messafe to you, I gave it another try… with a much better result…

I was just very uncertain about the way this is done – especially the part with using a Layout Element to Disable it where it’s not required.

But hey . now it works! Great.

Thank you for your patience and help with this.

    bw Peter

  • No apologies are necessary. I am happy to see its working and glad to be of help!
