Image Caption Editing

  • Hi all!

Just checking, am I correct in saying we can edit the image Title and Alt, but not the image caption, in the block editor on page.

To edit the caption (previously set on upload via the media library), do we have to go to the Media Library and edit it there?

Just checking in case I am missing something!

    Simon

  • Hi Simon,

If you’re using the GB Image block, you can add a caption from the floating toolbar option: https://app.screencast.com/VrHalufi1TMmP

  • Hi Alvind,

I have clicked that, and then turned on Dynamic which brings in the caption that is set in the WP media Library.

But I don’t think it is editable on the page, whereas the Alt text and Title Attribute are bought into the block data and can be edited there (and presumably a change there carries back to the WP media for the image??)

  • Ah, yes, you are correct. You will only be able to fetch the caption added in the WP Media previously, there is no way to edit that in the editor at the moment.

If you want to use a different caption, you will need to add the caption manually in the editor.

By the way, any updates you made to the Alt and Title in the editor won’t be saved in the actual image in the library.

  • Hi Alvind

Not a problem at all – just good to get an idea how it all works….

    Thanks for your info!

    Cheers Simon

  • You’re welcome! 😁
