Insert a header picture on a category page

  • Hi guys,

I would like to insert a header picture like this: https://explorertom.com/ on that category page: https://explorertom.com/albanien/ I also should include H1.

    Can I realize that somehow?

    Thanks,

    Tom

  • Hi there,

How many categories to you have?

  • Hi,

at the moment 24, but there will be more. On each category should be a different picture/H1 in the header.

  • Hi there,

Typically, we can create a dynamic page hero like the one in your example using an Element module. Just to clarify, when you mention the category page, are you referring to a category archive page? Because based on your example, it seems more like a single post layout.

The method to create a page hero for a category archive page and a single post hero is slightly different, so I need to confirm that first.

  • Actually I would like to create something like on the examples given here.

    viel-unterwegs.de/reiseziele/tuerkei
    viel-unterwegs.de/reiseziele/japan
    viel-unterwegs.de/reiseziele/schweden

It does not necessarily have to be a category (archive) page if I find a solution how to insert specific articles on each page. I don´t understand the difference between a category page and a category archive page. Can you clarify that please?

  • Okay, so that looks like a single post. I think you’ve mistakenly assumed that it was a category page.

The term for the header picture that you referred to is a Page Hero. You can create that with the Element module, and it will show dynamically across all your posts. The image will be fetched from the featured image, and the text in the middle comes from the post title. You can refer to this documentation for more information about creating a page hero:

To answer your question about category page vs category archive page:
Category Page: This typically refers to the page that displays a specific category’s content. For example, if you have a category called “Arts,” the category page for “Arts” would display all posts that have been assigned to the “Arts” category. Users can access category pages by clicking on category links or using category-specific URLs.

Category Archive Page: This term is broader and can refer to any page that displays a collection of posts from a specific category or multiple categories. In WordPress, when you visit a category page, you are essentially viewing a category archive page specific to that category. However, you can also create custom category archive pages that display posts from multiple categories or apply custom layouts and designs.

  • Thank you, that helps a lot! Is there any possibility to display only specific posts or posts within a certain category on a single post page like on the example website I sent you before?

  • You can use a query loop block to display posts, you can add the taxonomy parameter, and choose category > the specific category.

  • Hi Ying, may I ask where I can add specific taxonomy parameters for every single page?

  • Hi there,

if you want to show every page in your query, then DO NOT set any taxonomy parameters.
